Post G37s 6MT car shopper advice

I am looking into getting a G37s 6MT, as the title states, and am needing some advice. I am asking for any information that will help me with the following questions:

From what I have gathered on the forums the 08 had some problems with the clutch and battery issues. Were these for sure cleared up in the later years?

Any particular things I should look to check when searching for/test driving?

Is it possible to remove the rear spoiler and put the chrome lip on? (I know I am in the few that thinks the lip looks better than the spoiler) I was told by a sales person that the lip is installed at the factory so it would not be taken off.

Thank you

I just went through the same thing about a week ago! I just picked up an 09 6mt, and i absolutely love it. Some things to consider: dont be afraid to push the car a little hard. this will bring out some noises and things that may alert you. also, check the brakes and tires to look for excessive wear. (when people beat on their cars it shows.) check the clutch, brake, and gas pedals for wear (if you stomp on them, it will show wear) try to get service records for the car if you can so you can see how well the car was taken care of.

as far as the 08's being problemsome, i know a few guys that have had no problems whatsoever. (in fact i wouldnt be aware of any problems to the car without this forum.) also keep in mind the factory warranty of the car so you can repair any known issues if they pop up!

Good luck sir, and enjoy the car when you get it!

I've had no issues with my 08 6MT. Like said above, just look for the signs of any car being beat up and you should be fine. If one of the known issues pops up, the warranty and TSBs will handle them.

You know at first I was wishing I had the spoiler but as of lately the chrome lip has been growing on me.

take 10 minutes, go to a hill and figure out the clutch. This will tell you if its been tore up and will need to be replaced from it being beatup

Thank you for the responces so far. My friend had what I think was a '08 and his battery died all the time. He was in an accident and thought it was due to that but after research I think it was otherwise. If I can find a CPO than the warrenty would cover until '14 for an 08. Three years isn't great but acceptable. Consumer reports has the sedan as great reliablity but the coupe as only slighty over. This doesn't make sense to me but makes me cautious.

Can anyone comment on the tail/lip issue? I know it's kind of petty but it bothers me. Finding a G37s 6MT in slate blue with nav for under 35k doesn't give me a huge number of options. If I could in fact remove the spoiler this would help me a lot since it seems most S models have the areo package.

Thanks again

Thats smart and I would have never thought of that. Unfortunatly it is pretty flat in the area of Texas that I'm in. Maybe a steep on-ramp or parking garage if I can find one while test driving.
