Exclamation How can Nissan make 348HP on the IPL and not lose MPG ?

I think the whole ECU updated's with the IPL and NISMO 370z is a joke.

The NISMO 370z only makes that 350HP after 7400 RPM.

All Nissan did was take better CBE and put it on the stock ECM, they did the same thing on the Altima SE-R and the Maxima SE 20th Anniversary Edition.

And now they are doing the same thing to the 2011 G37.

The MPG for IPL is 26mpg MT and 27MPG Auto.

That is the same MPG for the 08-2010 G37s with only 330HP.

But it has 18more HP, But if you read into it the car only makes that HP after 74000RPM.. Who is going to drive that car at WOT 24.7

This just another game that Nissan is playing until next Gen G hits the streets.

And this time around it will be MB Eng not a Nissan VQ.

348HP car should not make 27Mpg.

I don't think I've ever gotten those "advertised" MPG...

18hp at the crank from factory is more like 5whp... Not a big improvement IMO. TwinTurbo FTW!

Dealer told me the IPL makes 400hp but you have to drive it only at 10k RPM + to get it

Redline at 7.5k, so you have a whole 100 rpms to justify your premium for the IPL.

Spend the money on proper bolt ons.

Why are you implying false facts? There was only rumors going around that there may be MB engines in future Infiniti's. But it still hasn't been confirmed from Nissan nor will it be happening in the near future anytime soon?

No one even knows exactly what's going on with the partnership between Nissan and Mercedes yet

power is torque over time so if you increase rpm for a given torque then you increase hp. spin it faster and typically hp goes up. not sure exactly how they are doing it on this motor but from what you described i would expect the same of our non-IPL motors. Push the rev limit up and it'll produce more hp in the new rev range, not everywhere. To me this sounds like a paper perk and not something anyone would notice or use unless they spend time in that RPM range.

it would not impact mpg because they don't do the mpg test at that rpm range.

That makes sense.

If owners want more midrange power out of the G37, get and UpRev tune and adjust A/F ratios... I gained 18whp in the midrange with bolt ons.

Good Point!

only reason I say that is because I think Nissan has reached it limits with the 3.7VQ.

Now if they plan on keeping the VQ around they should go back to the 3.5L and put turbos on it and make a nice 385Hp for next G.

There is still room for improvement on the VQ. As it stands right now, the VVEL only controls the intake side once Nissan applies it on the exhaust side as well, and perhaps DI we should see some improvements. DI alone should allow for even higher compression ratios.

I'd like to see some comparison dynos of the IPL and stock G37. They say an added peak hp, but I wonder what it makes across the rpm range over stock.

from what I am gathering after alot of reading is.
through engine management & exhaust.
this is done to improve throttle response, while not sacrificing gas mileage. They just made it more efficient by adjusting the ecu & exhaust system,a true dual exhaust.

does infiniti ever offer a 24 hr test drive? I know a while ago some other manuf. were doing drive it for 48hrs. If so maybe then someone can dyno it and see what it puts down w/out buyn it? IMO i think it's a waste of money and like Graph... said just get some bolt on's and a tune and most likely you'll have more power anyway. They should have had 30 extra hp and tq or somethn more than what they gave it. Too much extra money for the IPL for soo little gain.
