New to G37S

Hello all,

Just bought my 2008 G37S 2 weeks ago. Having lots of fun and loving this car. I do have a question about this car if someone can help out. I am used to driving 5 speed auto all my life, but with this new car something is not the same. My questions is what is the norm for RPM when cruising at 70 MPH? Mine is holding steady at a little under 3000 RPM. Is this normal for the G37? My other 2 cars are holding steady at under 2000 RPM when cruising at 70. Just wondering if this is normal or something I need to take back to the dealer? Any info would greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Usually big V8 cars will be geared so high that they are almost idling at highway speeds. The G is geared so that it will still have some powerband to work with at 70 mph....

So I am gathering that it is normal cruising at 70mph with 3000 rpm? Doesn't that waste more gas than normal?

Put it in perspective where red line is. My G auto is about at that ....

Uh, we didn't buy G's for their fuel economy.

Yes and yes.

The 2009+ with the 7 speed automatic crusies around 2,000 RPM at 70 mph.

Yep that is totally normal.
Because unlike the MDX and Accord, the G37 is a sports car.
But if you have a 09 and up G37, they have the 7 speed Auto which cruise at low 2000 RPM at highway speed.
