Infiniti + AMG ?! Rumors?
Mercedes-Benz and the AMG sports brand are apparently considering providing engines to Nissan’s luxury arm, Infiniti, in the US after the recent partnership deals between Daimler and Renault-Nissan were made earlier this year.
According to reports to come out of Japan, Infiniti models from the recently launched Infiniti Performance Line (IPL) could receive Mercedes-Benz engines in the future. In particular, the 3.5-litre twin-turbo six is said to be on the cards and could be fettled to the tune of 300-plus-kilowatts for the Infiiniti G coupe range.
Other engines on the wish list include the stonking 6.2-litre AMG V8. This could power an upcoming IPL version of the Infiniti M sedan. The model would then be a more worthy rival to the top-line BMW 5-Series as well as the Jaguar XFR. If this engine package does see the light of day though, it’s suspected the Infiniti M IPL will be available at a cheaper price than the equivalent Mercedes-Benz AMG E63 to avoid market clash.
It is early days though and the IPL brand’s future is still be considered. The brand was first unveiled at the Paris Motor Show earlier this year showcasing a range of upgraded sports features such as handling enhancements, cosmetic changes and an uprated engine package for the G37 coupe – a 3.7-litre Nissan unit offering 260kW.
Reports also say the IPL models featuring AMG engines may also be accompanied by a ‘Powered by AMG’ badge.

Do you guys think this is legit? BS?
Kinda dissapointing to me if it was ture
Why would infiniti need engines from AMG anyway?
Nissan should put their own TT engines and better V8s on upcoming cars!!!

I've heard similar rumors for a while now.... If the day ever comes when Mercedes engines are powering Infinitis, I'll be moving to another brand for sure. I'm just not a fan of Mercedes at all. I don't want a German engine in my Japanese car.

maybe because mercedez wants to move some of the overstock of amg packages.
they would be tapping a new market while still being able to sell their niche. Hey I'd drop a 6.2 in my g (someone has an ls2 vette motor in their 350z),its a win/win for infiniti. They can use a motor already in production,im sure this would save millions in research/development of new product.
the only negative I see is the maintenance on thoose motors, I would want to even imagine what it cost.

I don't buy it at all.
Infiniti will be doing some platform sharing and engione sharing with Mercedes on smaller engines and diesel technology. However, AMG prides itself on exclusivity and the fact that it's a very niche product. I just don't see Mercedes diluting the brand by putting AMG engines into "rebadged Nissans" (you know that's what people would say). Nevermind the fact that the 6.2L V8 has been discontinued in favour of a 5.5L twin turbo V8.

I think Mercedes AMG owners will hate this but as much as Infiniti Owners. AMG has exclusively tuned Mercedes last what.. few decades?, and they will now privide engine for Infiniti? Two brands are not related in anyways too. lol Infiniti can produce their IPL (Bimmer M or AMG figure) engines with their own technology. I don't find any other brand cars that can produce 330 HP with V6 on any of my car magazines..
I don't want to be known as Japanese brand Infiniti owner, whose cars "burrowed AMG engine from Germany.

I think, like most bull ****, there could be some truth lurking in it.
Then again, if infiniti, pumped up their v-8 and slapped turbos on it, they could potentially have a great performance luxury package for the M. IPL is super weak right now. Hopefully they continue to get funding.
