+1, although, the name really is more appealing in general. I can see all kinds of people clicking through to mystickerprice, but not dealthedealer.

I guess a meaningful piece of data that you will need from users is what their sticker price was and what they paid. To show the true discount. i.e. Bought 08 in early 08 or late 09, the "sticker" price would have changed.

Other factors that matter are "bought" or "leased" and how much down right?

I paid 10,ooo down, bought my 08 in april of 09, 50 miles at delivery, for $36,800. That was after some serious negotiation (plus free mats, and trunkliner, hehe).

Good luck!

Truecar.com already provides this information, including local pricing. They will also list invoice and dealer cost and give you values to shoot for when purchasing your new car with whatever options you select. It's a pretty good site. JFYI

Yes TrueCar does have a nice site. But i want to take advantage of the social online growth, and make the data "REAL PERSONS "data - not pulled from a dealer. with people being more social online, divulging personal information isn't so SCARY anymore..and people love to share! So I am hoping this is where my site will be a leader in that sense.

I do respect the competition IS out there. But maybe not in all aspects.

So TrueCar uses data from actual transactions? That seems like the way to go. People always like to think they got a good deal, even if they didn't. Nobody likes to admit that they could have paid less. So relying on "real persons" data might not be as accurate as using data from actual transactions provided from dealerships.

If I paid $42,000 for my new BatMobile, but I see that other people are averaging $40,000 for the same vehicle, I just might be inclined to fudge my numbers a bit.

I first brought up truecar.com because I just wanted let you know that there already is reputable website about local price of car, what people actually pay etc. I'm not trying to let you down with your dreams, but I just hope you make a website that interacts with actual people, users who also can leave comments and real voice (style of forums (?)). Example like which dealer was good b.c they had many car choices blah blah etc. along with price

JOSH - i tottally dont think that - and appreciate your feedback! and yes i would allow commenting etc. Also ability to upload your receipt (gotta think about the legal issues with this one) ...

MSCA: you do have a point, but also think since the dealerships are offering this info - it wouldn't be in THEIR best interest to supply pricing of what it was really sold for - since then everyone will want it that price (exactly what i want my site do to).. I would have to believe that they inflate the number slightly to give them some WIGGLE room. Just my thoughts.. we all know how dirty car dealers can be. But again, appreciate your feedback..and noted

So how exactly do they obtain their data? Do dealerships have to submit it? Or do they look it up via financial transactions? Tax records? I really wouldn't depend upon dealership personnel to submit accurate data any more than I'd depend upon regular car buyers. I'm just wondering how it all works...

MSCA if you go to their FAQ section it says how - they get it from dealers....im not sure why dealers would share this info? but i would assume its inflated. My system is run my social. YES there is a chance some people will put some fake numbers..but overall i believe people will be honest....the social mindset of online users seem to be based more on trust..we read product reviews of strangers which makes us switch our OWN decisions on something we were so sure was?? its happened to me..we SEEK other peoples input..that we don't personally know..and i feel if people remain honest...that the big play i have is my data is REAL PEOPLE DATA, not "bought" or "delivered" from dealers...but from REAL customers...

$22,500, for a 2007 Silver Infiniti G35s 6-speed manual with EVERY OPTION(AFS, Nav, Bose, etc.) and 46k miles. Bought it in early 2009, it was a steal !! Btw Im on the G37 forum because I really DONT like the look of the 1st gen G35(looks like a Nissan Altima), and am sick of being confused with the slower and older 07 G35 coupe.

Dude, this is a way better idea than the site that uses dealer info (as you have already mentioned).

So here is more food for thought...
1) How do you plan to gather enough data from users to make the site truly helpful? The incentive for a prospective buyer is to come to the site before they buy a car, not after. You need a business plan idea that will drive people who have purchased recently to the site. A couple ideas come to mind.
2) Much of your data will become obsolete quickly as the market moves fast. I wonder if there is some way to archive the data and compile it with used car sale data (another portion of the site, what kelly BB was, and what someone bought or sold the car for) such that you could more accurately predict the value of a vehicle in a given area. Over time it seems like the data could be used to track depreciation and some other interesting things.

I love this kinda stuff. Good luck!
