No **** it is cheaper to hit the animal but who does a cost to repair comparison in a split second? Something runs out in front of you and you swerve to avoid it.
damn that really sucks! I'm glad everyone is ok (except the car) thats why we pay boatloads for insurance! The brake is on the left, not the right noob!

Nobody does a cost to repair comparison in a split second, but safety should always be paramount. Unless you are well trained in high speed avoidance maneuvers, and you can safely fling a car side to side whole covering 70 feet per second, the first instinct of any driver should be to slow down in a straight line. If he didn't pay enough attention to where the car was pointed, I can assure you he did not see if there was a car in his blind spot as he made the move. Electronic aids only go so far. Also, finding the brake and not mashing the gas helps a lot too. I know it's a mistake, but it's a mistake that could have cost him, or someone else his life. I'm glad he came out of it unharmed, and I hope his car is fixed to his satisfaction. I'm not trying to rag on the guy, but I see mistakes like this cost people their lives, or lives of others every day.
