The differences for me are as follows
Styling (subjective) I think the G looks much much better than the 3. If it were an M3, well that's another story, but that's also in a different league.
Handling: The 3 has better steering feel but the suspension feels softer than the G in the turns. There is also no LSD option in the 335 which to me is a bit ridiculous for a car at that performance level.
Fit and finish: I give the 3 the edge on that.
Acceleration from a dig: the 3 feels much more responsive out of a dig. From a rolling start, The G feels better. The G feels more responsive accelerating out of high speed turns to me.
Available features: For the price, you can't beat the G. The features of the 335 fully loaded vs a fully loaded G are not as nice or as well thought out to me.

OP: The answers you seem to be getting are from people who've either never owned a 335 or have never driven one for an extended period of time.
As a former owner of a 3, there is no comparison to my g35. Granted, the 37 has a little more hp than my engine, but the difference between the 3 and g is torque. Face it, the vq motor is gutless at low to mid rpms, where most of your daily driving occurs. Yes, it shines at higher rpms, but how often do you really get that high? Exactly.
Go drive both and decide for yourself. Even with a little time behind the wheel of a 3, you'll easily notice the difference between the two engines.

kahboom and rlb, thanks for the opinions.
i think the g looks a lot better too..
and yeah the price difference is crazy. the only way id consider the bmw is if i can get a very good deal on it (the extra money i think is in no way worth it.)
thanks for the inputs... ill have to test it out to see if the drive really blows me away...

I'd prefer the RWD 335i myself but yeah, if you can get an E92 for the same price as the G I'd go with the BMW. There's just something about the way that car drives that I can't explain. THe G is 99% as good, don't get me wrong, I just love BMW's....

80 in a 45? I thought that being in the armed forces is supposed to make you more mature and smarten you up a bit.

I drove the 335, A5, 370z, and the G37. What put me over the edge for purchase choice was the the value the G brought to the table. Compared to the 335, I had to option much less to get all the cool interior goodies. The A5 was not as spirited, though I did enjoy the looks externally as well as the interior (I didn't even try the S5 as it was outside of my price range). The 370 was fun, but not practical for me. In the end, I chose the G and I'm happy about my decision.

Back to the subject, as many have stated above, you WILL NOT get a 335xi for the same price you can get a G37 unless it's an absolute stripper, and even that would be a challenge. I've been to quite a few BMW dealerships, and I have yet to see a 335i under $48k. xDrive Sedans over $50k are the norm.
For the same money, I'd buy the BMW sedan. If it were between the coupes, I'd buy the G37.
