Personally I think the IPL line has a tremendous future if Infiniti would commit to it. Right now the made a start with one foot in and one foot out, whether for budgetary reasons or whatever. In this economy it is hard to pay the extra money for the minimal increases / amenities that the IPL has. But once the jump is made to a V8 or turbo, LOOK OUT! Until then, I think I will stick with my Coupe S.

Let's put things in perspective pay $3000 more for a lot of exclusive upgrades is a great deal. And good research and marketing ploy. You want Infiniti to make a halo G but I doubt less than 3% of you will spend $70,000 on a G coupe. Give it sone time for the brand to grow and exceed thier competitors. Infiniti is making the right steps to grow the brand

I can agree with the OP to a certain extent. But I just can't seem to understand what exactly is the IPL all about. I just feel that Infiniti needs to step up their game in so many ways.

I wished they followed what Lexus did with the ISF. They released the V8 beast first and then the ISF line came along...

Here's the problem: To support IPL, then you really have to buy IPL. I don't see any other way to really support it. That said, Infiniti did nothing with the IPL coupe that would make me want it over a standard Sport model. A few extra HP? Looks nice on a data sheet, but isn't nearly enough to make a difference on the road. The "body kit"? Ugh...don't even get me started on that.

If Infiniti really wants the IPL line to stand out, then give it a substantial boost in power and work a little harder on the body kit. Most ///M cars, S-Line, AMG cars look quite a bit better than their standard counterparts. I wish I could say the same with the IPL G37 coupe.

Although I cannot confirm, I seriously doubt the M3 makes up even 3 percent of all 3 series sales. And I would not expect a true hi performance G to come in at 70k, but 55-60k I would consider.

Exactly... They should have launched IPL with either a G56S or an M56S Coupe!

IPL =

Idiots Paying Losers

Only idiots would go to an infiniti dealership and fork over that cash to those losers that work there.

In 2008 BMW sold about 25,000 M vehicles worldwide, about 18,000 of those were M3s. So you can do the math and figure out what percentage of total vehicle sales are M vehicles.

the comment was regarding the percentage of 3 series sold were M3, not percentage of all M's were M3. So I still can't do the math, but thanks!

Most people don't understand that IPL is only a package.. Just like the M-tech is a package for the 335i. IPL G was never ment to be in the same category as the M3, it was just there be the equivalent of the M-tech.

In 2008 BMW sold 1,202,239 vehicles world wide. Of that 474,208 were 3 Series (sedan, wagon, coupe, and convertible). So, about 39% of BMW sales are 3 Series vehicles and about 2% of BMW sales are M vehicles. Looking specifically at the 3 Series, 3.8% of 3 Series sales were M3s. That means that only 1.5% of all BMW vehicles sold in 2008 were M3s.

Now, BMW sells vehicles around the world and Infiniti only sold vehicles in North America (prior to their European expansion). I don't see how Infiniti could make a "M type" vehicle financially successful at this point in time.

I think people have in their mind that IPL should be a M/AMG competitor so that's how they're judging it, regardless of the facts.

I think some people just believe that IPL should be more than a few HP and a different (in this case uglier) body kit. In my opinion, it's a ****-poor first attempt for an IPL car. Not only wouldn't I pay more for it, I would actually pay more to have a 2010 G37S over a the new IPL G37 coupe because the 2010 car looks better to me.
