I don't like this half-assed approach personally. If Infiniti wants to make a performance line of vehicles, I think the AMG/M divisions should be their target. This is just a warmed-over G with a little more hp and an ugly body kit.
The guy in the article said there was a limited market for a $70k halo car but I think the M3 and C63 sell just fine....

As the manager of the IPL brand himself said:
No one would have bought a G50 or G56 regardless of how "cool" it would be. Infiniti is smart and is not blowing their money on projects that would have not make money at this point in time.
IPL is not meant to be the equivalent of Mercedes-Benz AMG or BMW M... "Listen, we could have developed a new G Coupe with our 5.0-liter or the 5.6 [V8]. But at what cost? Sure, it would have been a halo performance vehicle, but traditionally those don't sell well." In other words, we all need to remember that the auto business remains a for-profit enterprise.

That's the point, BMW can sell M3s becuase people are willing to pay the premium required for halo vehicles. People are not willing to pay the premium for a G50 or G56 so it makes no sense to make one at this time.

Dunno if it's a repost or not but here's a first review from C&D as well.

I have to agree with John English on this. You mention the M3, but that car is a low volume seller. Plus BMW is a solidified tier 1 brand and in most cases they sell anywhere from 25%-50% more cars than Infiniti in every category.
Lexus does not have the racing history of BMW, Audi or Benz, but they generate so much profit they can spend money building a supercar just for bragging rights and withstand the loss financially.
At this time Infiniti, IMO, does not have the finances or the brand status to take a loss on a M3 competitor or any type such car. IPL is a nice way to test the waters and the risk is minimal.

Glad I'm a subscriber to Automobile mag. They are honest and never too critical in their reviews. But about the car I'm just gonna say that its a start. Better they do this than be like Lexus and put out a car like the isf, which I'm sure they intended to compete with the M3, and get embarrassed. Ive yet to see a M3 go down in a comparison test so its a hard car to top by any manufacturer. But did anyone notice the big wheel gap is gone in the pics? The first photos I had seen showed a HUGE wheel gap and it looks as if they took care of that pretty quick.

Im gonna ask a question. You guys think if Infiniti put out a 400+ hp G coupe for 56k, people would still consider the GT-R. Again Im not trying to make a statement Im asking for opinions.
