Paintless Dent Repair, Worth it?

Got a very small dent a few months ago. Makes me nuts every day.
Body shop recommends paintless dent repair - $150.

Anyone have this done? Is the dent really not visible after it's done?

I don't mind spending the bucks if it's worth it.

It's definitely worth it. As long as the paint isn't broken and the dent isn't on a body line/crease, a good paintless dent removal guy will make the dent look like it was never there.

Mine was actually right on a crease and the guy made it 99% unnoticeable...

It's also sometimes not possible if it is too close to an edge since those areas are double-reinforced

A few years back an oil lamp fell off the shelf in my garage and hit the car, I had at the time. It wasn't my current G.
I had a crease that looked like someone hit the car with an ax.
It was a sharp crease on the rounded radius of the rear passenger side panel..
It was a pearl white paint job and the 3 body shops, I took it to for estimates, said it would cost between $750 and $900 to repair and repaint.
I took it to a dent repair place and they fixed it for $80.
I figured I had nothing but $80 to lose to try the dent repair method

When they were done you couldn't find the damaged area.
The reason I tried the dent repair place first was so the car would keep the original paint job and I wouldn't have to worry about any newly painted body panel fading differently then the stock paint job.

I just went through this with the FX. After a killer hail storm in mid-July the car had 1/2 dozen dents all over. Insurance took care of the repairs but this is what bothered me:
Paintless dent fix is the process by which the repairman will try to push the dent from underneath the surface. No problem if the dent is on an easy-to-reach part of the car. When it can't be reached easily then the repairman will drill a small hole in order to push through the tool. Now you end-up with holes in the body which will allow moisture and result in rust. The tech said that he will plug the holes with rubber stoppers and that would probably work in some areas of the body. I'm worried about holes in areas like the bottom of doors, anywhere in the back hatch and other areas exposed to water. Needless to say, the insurance will not cover rust 2-3 years from now.

$150 to repair a 'small dent' seems pretty expensive. How large and where is the dent on your car?
I know for a small dent here in Central Texas, where PDR shops are very commonplace thanks to all the freaky hail storms, compact parking and general idiots on the road here, a small dent usually runs about $25 to fix, or if you have 4 or more dents on one panel approximately $100 per panel.

But as long as the PDR shop knows what they are doing, you won't be able to tell there was ever a dent there and they still maintain your original paint job.

The dent may be as large as a quarter, but is no larger than that. It's on the drivers side rear quarter panel.

Living in the DC area...everything is expensive!

go to g35driver and post in the national g club section. they did a group pdr night at a bodyshop last year. those guys can point you in the right direction. i had a 8 inch by four inch depression in my g35 caused by someones forearm on the c pillar. the pdr guy that works at the bmw dealership in towson took it out in 20 minutes and it looked like it was never there. if there is anything worth the money for auto repair, pdr would be it.

edit: he charged a hundred and i tipped him $20

$150 seems to be a high quote for that repair.. I had my bumper repaired at 101 auto body shop.. horrible dents and scratches..and they just quoted me $80 dollars for that.. try to check them at Washington auto repair.

You have to remember that there is a minimum amount a pdr man will charge just to take the tools out of the bag. Most come to you... I've never paid less than $100 for a ding removal. May be a lot for just a small ding but cheaper than a bodyshop repair.

$150 is high for PDR

but in general PDR is def worth considering. when you find one that charges a decent amount...its worth spending those few bucks before spending bigger ones

I actually sprung for 5 years of pdr coverage so that I wouldn't be overly paranoid about parking.
