Road Tripping the Coupe
#17
Took a trip with my wife last fall from MD to Charleston SC. Not as long as the trip you're planning, but a pretty decent cruise. I did all of the driving. The G was great. Got upto 110 briefly while the wife was sleeping, wouldn't have known it was that fast other than seeing the speedo.
Seats were very comfortable for both of us. Will probably get some negative feedback on this comment, but here goes...improving the strength of your "core", including abbs, will make the drive more comfortable. That will take pressure off your back and butt.
Have a great trip.

Thanks for all the replies..co pilot is the gf (she wont be driving, she can't drive MT). We are visiting her family and trying out something different. its 4000 miles and about a week long of driving. thanks for letting me know about the routes, any other point of interest? places to avoid? I do have a bit of worry about being a young-ish looking asian guy (30yo) and traveling to places where there isn't too many diversity..

aw, i should've taken picture of my car prep before a small road trip. through country roads, bugs and rocks are killer! your hall - you might be more concerned with trucks + rocks. i covered the entire front bumper with painters tape. in retrospect, it looked pretty ridiculous (stupid), but i'm glad i did it.

P.S. - Personally, I wouldn't take I-10 for the sake of enjoyment. I think it's a very boring route.

Sounds fun, I plan on making a trip from somewhere in CA (not sure where ill start) all the way to New York sometime in the near future, hopefully.
You can tape up if you want, just so the bugs and other stuff wont get on your car, it may look ugly but it keeps the bugs off, and can help with small rocks, all your choice haha. and just the norm, check your oil, fluids, brakes etc... you should know lol.
I say, every gas stop, or even before every one make sure you stretch everything/walk around just so nothing locks up on you. and someone already mentioned it, but see if you can find some meets going on and drop by
If you already know all of this and this was unhelpful sorry for wasting your time haha
Have fun and safe driving

I just finished my trip from CA to New York two weeks ago. I had my car completely packed with luggage. You definitely want to wrap up the car. At the end of the trip, my car was filthy. The trip was quite comfortable for the most part, but your back will hurt after 7-8 hours of driving. This is a pic from the day before i set off.

"I understand. I had a nice pair of Rollerblades. I was afraid to wreck them, so I kept them in a box. Do you know what happened? I outgrew them. I never wore them outside. Only in my room a few times." (yes that is from home alone 2) (sorry Modme, I mean no disrespect)
Point I am trying to make... if you are going to be that afraid of getting scratches on your G... Take the FX in the garage for your trip (or in your case OP a different DD)... no point in taking away from this car's beauty like the ^ , just my $.02 but that is a bit much... Enjoy you car but if you fear the road damage that will come... maybe invest in a clear bra for protection.
Enjoy the trip and take pics of the adventure.

At the end of the trip, you'll be amazed at how much crap gets on the bumper. If you admired the beauty of our cars, then you'd do what you can to preserve that beauty. 7 days of the car taped up is small inconvenience for preventing the rock chips that will ruin the look of the car for the rest of its years.
Plus, if you do the taping nicely, the car looks nice. Throughout my trip, I've must had at least 20 strangers comment on the tape and then compliment the look of the car. Without the tape, I doubt anyone would pay a second glance at the car.

It just looks like your about to paint your bumper or something. But I would rather pay for a new paint job on my bumper every 2-3 years than have my car look like that on a 3,000 mile trip. thats just me.
