I would also be concerned with getting reimbursed from insurance only what the car was worth at the time of the loss. So then I would either have to fork up an additional $10,000 for a new one, or buy a used ’08 that I know nothing about and that most likely wasn't cared for as well as I care for mine.

I had a car stolen from me once. It was recovered about a week later. When I went to pick it up, there was a hole where the door lock used to be and the steering column was smashed. It was such a weird feeling driving that car again. I got it fixed and kept it, but I really wished that it was never recovered in the first place. It's a weird feeling of somehow being violated....I don't know how to describe it, but I'm sure other people who have had the same experience know what I'm talking about.
