From Motor Authority:

Looks like IPL will not be a "separate car" like a M3 is from a 335i or C63 is from a C350 but rather just individual parts you can install on base G's (like Nissan NISMO parts and Lexus F Sport parts). Would like to see a G37 "M3" separate car type but performance parts are a good start too

Yeah, that's why I was wondering. If they were selling a factory-assembled car with these performance upgrades, that would be pretty cool. But if it's just available upgrades that you buy and install later, then IPL seems kinda weak. They should follow the lead of BMW's M cars.

Building something like an AMG or M vehicle is far too big of an investment for Infiniti right now. Look at the Lexus IS-F, that was pretty much a flop and Lexus has a lot more money behind them than Infiniti does.

Two advantages I see:
1) I'm certain someone mentioned this before, but IPL will obviously be covered by Infiniti under a warranty.
2) It seems there is a huge discrepancy between the amount of money you have to invest in a G to optimize performance compared to the 3 series. I'm assuming IPL will close the gap making it relatively cheap for upgrades.
