Is it possible to disable adaptive cruise control?

I bought the tech package on my 09 G37X coupe. It was a mistake. I don't like and don't use the adaptive cruise control. The annoying thing is that to turn on standard cruise I have to hold down the button until it cycles through the adaptive cruise to standard. This is distracting and a little bit dangerous.

My question: Is there a way for me or for a dealer to simply turn off adaptive cruise, eliminate a module or whatever it might be so that I don't have to deal with this and can turn on standard cruise more quickly and easily?

If the laser wasn't also used for preview braking and pre-crash Seat belts, blocking that would be an easy fix. I'd give service a call and see if they can... I suspect not.

Why wouldn't you just use the adaptive cruise? Whats so offensive about it?

Holding a button for few seconds is distracting and dangerous? What are you smoking?

I think some folks aren't proactive enough with it or have somenone pull in front of them causing their car to break. I've heard, but haven't tried, that you can apply you accelerator pedal slightly and this will temporarily cause the car to not break in that situation.

Yes, I wouldn’t want my car to break either. But I would like it to brake on demand.

Yes you can do 'normal' cruise control if you have adaptive cruise control. Just hold the 'on/off' button for three seconds and it will turn on standard cruise control instead of ICC

To turn on the conventional (fixed speed) cruise
control mode, push and hold the MAIN switch
sA for longer than about 1.5 seconds.
When pushing the MAIN switch on, the Intelligent
Cruise Control system display and the
CRUISE indicator are displayed on the dot matrix
crystal display. After you hold the MAIN
switch on for longer than about 1.5 seconds, the
Intelligent Cruise Control system display goes
out. The CRUISE indicator stays lit. You can now
set your desired cruising speed. Pushing the
MAIN switch again will turn the system completely
off.
When the ignition switch is pushed to the OFF
position, the system is also automatically
turned off. To use the Intelligent Cruise Control
again, quickly push and release the MAIN
switch (vehicle-to-vehicle distance control
mode) or push and hold it (conventional cruise
control mode) again to turn it on.

Well blocking the Laser would disable ICC, and won't break your car. It would also disable pre-pressurization of the brakes on detection of immenent collision and pre-tensioning of the seat belts as well however. Same thing would happen if the laser gets covered in mudd or snow or get's out of alignment.

He means its "brake" (as in a car's brakes) not "break" (as in a car breaking down). God, what are they teaching in schools these days...
