Coupe performance - how much does it really matter to you?

Look at how many people buy the BMW 328i coupe. It'll sell.
Early reviews say that the G25 sedan is "fast enough" so I don't see why the coupe would be any different.

No, not for me. I am coming from a twin turbo Subaru with 260 HP, and 1.4 tonnes, so I wanted something with at least the same power/weight ratio.
That being said, it would be cool if Nissan was offering different engines for the coupe, like audi does with 5 series or bmw with 3 series (unless, they want us to be exlusive, and I can only honor that).
As somebody mentioned, if a V8 option (Nissan's 4L rather than 5.6 would be better), I would have taken that in an instant. I really wanted a V8, but the only affordable option for me was a used Benz CL or a Lexus SC, which are bit old man's car. The Skyline was the closest thing.

Your logic seems faulty. Would I still pay $44K for a performance oriented luxury grand touring coupe with 225 HP? Hell no. And other than Mr. Diesel, I don't think any of us would. C6 owners wouldn't buy their Vettes if they had 280 HP for the sane cost either, it's just not the same car and it would be a horrendous value. Infiniti would sell 17 units per year.
Now if you called it a G25, knocked thousands off the price, and marketed it as a sporty entry level luxury/economy sedan, folks will buy it.

Well, we might just see such a scenario if the G25 coupe ever makes it to the U.S. The HP would be somewhere around 225, but the price would definitely be lower.
So far a lot of you guys seem pretty much hung up on the HP rating and would not be willing to go significantly lower. But I've had cars that were around 225 HP (old 5.0L Mustangs, E36 M3) that were a ton of fun. They were a little lighter than the G37 coupe, but they were still a lot of fun to drive with that level of power. I don't think 225 HP would be as bad as some of you think, especially on a manual trans car.
Maybe I'm getting old, but I drove a friend's Mini Cooper (with manual trans) the other day and although it is waaaay underpowered compared to the G37 coupe, it was still a lot of fun to wind out the gears. The fact that it had LESS power seemed to make it more fun in most cases. I found myself able to wind it out without breaking the speed limit too much, whereas the G37 would have been way over the speed limit much faster. Maybe it's just more fun to make the car work hard without getting to insane speeds. But I still wouldn't take one over a G37. And for the record, I don't think I'd buy a 225 HP G37 either, but I'd have to see how it drove before I completely ruled it out.

I would take a E36 M3 over a G37 right now... if it wasn't for maintenance and scarcity of nice ones on the market
An E36 M3 with 100 less HP STILL does 0-60 faster than a G37

Nope.
1. Not a fan of American cars.
2. The styling of the G is so damn sexy AND with the 330hp makes it worth every penny I spent on it.
3. If your car is on order...why are you even debating this? Why would you ever downgrade?

Nope. Performance was part of the equation.
If there was a 225hp model (~G25) along with the G37, I wouldn't have bought the G. It would be waaaay too common and all the idiots driving the lower model would have ruined it for me.
If there were three models (eg; G25, 37, and 37TT/56), I would have gone for the "premium". Though it would be common, blowing the doors off of the schmoe's that think your car is "base" would make up for that.
Unfortunately, it sounds like the downgraded G is making it's way here. When it does, its time to get a new car.

225 HP on a car this heavy would be so foolish. It would be slower than the Acura RSX Type-S. IMHO, 225HP is underpowered on a RWD car unless it's super light (like Lotus light, or at least Toyota MR2/Honda S2000/Mazda Miata light)
I def would NOT consider this car for that kind of power anywhere near this price.
