Foul smelling air from vents

Hey Guys, for some reason my 09' G37S has developed a foul musty smell coming from the air vents whenever I turn on the AC or even if I just vent in some fresh air from outside. We've had some pretty good rain this year in SoCal and I'm wondering if some of it has found its way into the air induction system and begun to stagnate. Any ideas on how to fix this mess? Thanks!

Good luck with that.... mine has been like this since 6 months after ownership. I complained to the dealer and they charged me for some "Fridge Refresh" service for $75 which helped for about 1 week. I replaced the in cabin airfilters myself and that didn't help. I rolled the windows down, blasted the heat for 30min to an hour with the AC off and sprayed tons of lysol in the outside air intakes and that didn't help either.

If you find a way to fix it please let me know! I heard one guy took a sample of the bad smelling air to a lab and it contained some pretty dangerous molds... he ended up just selling the car

I had that musty stink after the rains but haven't had it lately, what I do have is the in cabin air filter I've been procrastinating to install.

Maybe you farted and it got sucked into the cabin air filter. Everytime you turn your AC on, your own fart keeps comming back. Or maybe a service guy had really really bad BO...it happened on Seinfield.

Yeah. I notice this problem too. It is only when it is cold out for some reason. What I do is switch the air from recirculate to outside flow which usually helps out a bit.

The car has exactly 2765 miles on it. Can't believe the filter is dirty yet, but maybe I'm wrong.

No, I'm sure it wasn't one of my farts that did it. The San Diego County Health Department hasn't issued any air quality warnings lately.

You'll want to blast the heater on full blast for a minute or two after using the AC before you park it. It should help get rid of the condensation that builds up.

Turning it off with all that condensation is what creates this smell. Funny that a lot of cars don't really suffer from this, but ours do.

I had the same funkdafied smell coming from my AC too. Started a thread about it last year and got comments like I needed to take a shower and Guam stinks and **** like that. ha ha ha! Anyways, I did notice it happened after a rainy period, so there's gotta be a correlation with that. Didn't do anything about it, haven't really noticed the smell since then.

BTW, while we're at it. Do any of you guys notice a sort of burning engine smell when you drive the car hard?

Thanks, I think I'll try cranking up the heater and letting it run for a while to see if that helps dry things out a bit. Agree about our cars having a problem with funky air. My wife's 05' Acura TL never had that issue.

Maybe somebody put deer urine in your AC intakes. Have you been warring with the neighbors lately?
