Of course, if your..ahem..."special keyfob" had it's battery go out, you'd have to put your junk into the slot for the keyfob when it has no battery..ahem..
Okay...I'm done here!

lol @ this thread.
My guess woulda been just another case of tightazz pants. Pants were so tight the signal was being interrupted.
Its happened to me before but not because of the tight *** pants, but because of my chorizo con huevos getting in the way like Betty said.

But seriously, I think it just happens occasionally. It's done it to me once. I shut off the car, got out, got back in, and it was normal again. Just a fluke I guess.

Oh whew, I'm glad you were joking with regards to adjusting your "junk" so it doesn't block the transmitter in the keyfob. I was SERIOUSLY worried you were going to provide a photo demonstration of the procedure next!
AHEM..anyway, I was in my car about 90 minutes total today, and no problems with it not recognizing the keyfob. I guess all the recommended...adjustments worked.

Glad it got normal again. If it happens again update us. Mine hasn't done it again since the first time over a year ago, that's why I said it must be a fluke.

Doubt it's the battery. My battery is still at a little under 1/2 juice and I've been using the fob for almost 2 1/2 years, since I got the car. Probably a one time thing! was there anything metallic near the key? Because I know wrapping it in aluminum foil or encasing it as such renders its presence non existent.

^ But it doesnt charge the fob or start the car if the battery in the fob is dead from what i've heard. Its just to insert it while driving.
The slot does nothing IIRC

The I-Key has 2 IDs, one for Intelligent Key RF transmission and one for IVIS (NATS) which is a separate Infinit/Nissan immobilization/anti theft system. The latter ID is store in a circuit in the FOB. When your FOB battery is discharged and you plug it into the slot the electronics around the slot can read the ID just like a non-IKey Nissan vehicle with a NATS chip in the physical key. So the slot is not just a place to put your FOB but required if the I-Key transmission is not possible due to a discharged battery.
