Car in shop 6 weeks and counting - Remedy?
Background:
Back around Super Bowl Sunday I pull my 2008 G37 6MT out of the garage, notice the check engine light was on (first time I had ever seen it), then all of a sudden the gas pedal would not work. Push the pedal, no blip in RPM's. I turned the car off, popped the hood, waited a few minutes then drove off. The check engine light remained lit but car drove fine. I went to the auto shop to have them do a diagnostic. Got the diag. code, googled it, and saw others with the same problem. The code was something about engine fuel too rich. Others on this forum had the same problem, they would be driving their car then all of a sudden the car stops driving.
Well, I took it to my Infiniti dealer and they've had the car ever since. Said the part is back ordered with no ETA on shipment. The dealer will not give the car back with out fixing it since it is a safety hazard. I do have a loaner, but am wondering if anyone has had a similar experience; if so, did the dealer provide any sort of remedies for the hassle. For example, free oil changes...anything? I am definitely going to ask the service consultant for some sort of perk in exchange for them having the car so long, but wanted to see what you guys think.
Thanks

Do you know what part is backordered? It sounds different from my scenario below but it still sucks to be without the car for that long.
I had my car go into failsafe/limp mode 3 weeks ago while leaving work and the check engine light came on. I tried shutting and restarting but it would not idle smoothly and would cut out above 2K RMP so I had it towed. The next morning I called the dealer and they said it was running fine but still had the MIL and codes so they diagnosed it and after reviewing with Infiniti Tech Support determined one of the intake timing control valve solenoids was the problem. It took them about 3-4 days to get me the car back but so far no further problems.
They'll tell you that you have a loaner so you're not greatly inconvenienced but I would ask them politely to either expedite the part or offer some compensation for being without your car for an unreasonable amount of time. I know that FedEx works between Japan and the US so if they really want to get the part they could.
Good Luck.

um 6 weeks???? The way I look at it is, that is more than a month which means you are making car payments for a car that you dont even have right now. I would complain to the manager of the dealership and Infiniti consumers affairs and see about them making the monthly payments until your car is out of the shop.

I had the same thing happen to me last summer, went to wally mart...car was fine came out after shopping and started car (lifted the clutch to soon and it didnt fully start), started again and it was in limp mode. Towed it home, next day it started and reved fine. Cleared the code which was right bank VVEL something or other and its been fine since. Never contacted to dealer about it.

I will work on getting the part's name (I think it was BCA something or other). Additionally I'l try to remember what the diagnostic code was.
I look at it this way: Pro - I am saving mileage on my lease. Con, I'm paying the monthly on a car I do not have.
Without pulling out the lease contract, I am almost certain that Nissan has their *** covered by giving me a loaner vehicle. This is why I doubt I'll get them to pay my car payment.
Someone please expand on the lemon law rules.
Thanks

The part that is backordered is a BCM Body Control Module.
The parts department is going to call me tomorrow with an update. He told me it takes up about 27 days to ship things from Japan, which does not make much sense.

yea it can take a month to ship from japan if they are waiting on like a carrier that ships like once a month. Thats why volk/work wheels to forever to order, the cargo container leave like every month or so.
what they should do is overnight the freakn part to you. It will cost a good amount to do that but the fact they choose to leave you carless for 6 weeks is unacceptable

Tony, I have the Georgia Statutes in front of me. You have certain consumer
rights..."any cumulative total of 30 calendar days involving attempted repair of
a single nonconformity in which at least 15 of such days occur during the
warranty rights period."
I've personally been through this twice...ADVICE....DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT

Good Luck, Just be patient and enjoy your new car when you get it.

When called back to reissue the certificate, they said it is a one time only thing for every customer, and they did it out of good gesture, I told them for something that is offered once in a lifetime, it sure seems like there are too many restrictions on it. and "good gesture" really got on my nerve.
good luck
