Unhappy Got Hit By a Flying Rock!

I was on the highway in the fast lane when I noticed a pathfinder in the middle lane (2 car lengths ahead) went over a pothole and suddenly shot up this piece of rock the size of a base ball in the air atleast 20 feet and then I suddenly noticed HOLY CRAP thats coming right at my windshield, I had no place to avoid it, I had a narrow shoulder to my left and a car to my right, only had a little bit to move over to then I hear the awful sound, BANG!! I didnt know what happened or where it hit, my windshield was fine but I look over to the side and the passenger side view mirror is folded so flip on the hazards and start pulling over. The end result was not pretty. The fender has a gash and needs to be replaced. The side view mirror has its cover missing along with some internal pieces all cracked, its holder being all banged up. Im guessing its more then $700. I pulled in to my parking garage and snapped a quick pic from my phone, i'll take detailed ones tomrrow. This blows..

Damn that sucks. I think it might have been better to let it hit the windshield. It would destroy it but the way automobile windshields are designed it would not have broken to pieces. It would be alot cheaper to replace and some insurance companies do it for free.

Sorry to see that happen man.

Sorry to hear that happened. Have you ever noticed when something like that happens you tend to duck down. That's what I did when a rock chipped the window of my SUV.

Sorry to hear that. I have had **** hit my cars all the time driving in LA. Once a friggin tire rolled out to the fast lane and it hit my front right bumper of my honda. It shot out from no where and I had very little time to react. Stay alert on the road!

ouch... that's a giant rock... i mean DAMN

yeah i mean you can expect to run 6-700 bucks to repair any panel, you do have white tho. if you were in the bay area I could give you the name of a place that does REALLY good work for less.

I mean I've seen a lot of "good places" fix paint and their work doesn't look any better than say you sprayed it yourself. not fit and polished by my standards... saw one today that redid some front end damage on a civic... looks shiny, but ughh... clear coat was all wrong by my standards.

thanks for the concern guys, I know it sucks but as stated above, sometime you have a split second decision to make and I feel I made the right one instead of freaking out or slamming the brakes because then it would have landed on my hood or something insane like that lol.

I will be taking it in to my local body shop, he does a legit job but im also contemplating my dealerships collision center hoping they would do a good job matching the IP paint..either way who ever does it, its on them to match it other wise I'll keep bringing it back..

the picture doesnt show but the fender has a deep deep gash from the rock, the mirror's frame is also all cracked which the pic doesnt show and the holder holding the mirror is also all scuffed and messed up. This will be expensive, i have a $500 deductible..
