intelligent key question

so every time i get in my car now, a picture of my key and a meter comes up telling me that my key battery is low. I know that the key slot does not charge the key? I hope im right. But does anybody know how much it costs to replace the battery at the inifiniti dealership?

just go buy yourself a new battery. it's a DIY to take apart the key... just slide it on the side and pop it open

Battery number is CR2032. Buy it at any Walmart, Target, etc. A 2-pack is $5.

yup, that's what ours was doing .... the car must measure the RF strength to determine battery strength. As soon as I replaced it, the display went away.

Why would you pay $10 for a $2 battery along with a trip to the dealership?

really, the manual tells you how to open it. Remove the hard key, pry open with a flat blade screw driver, replace battery, snap back together.

So mine is doing the same thing now. I have changed the battery twice, each time with a different brand of battery. I get in my car and the key indicator light stays on. The battery is in the proper way and the cover is closed. Any ideas???

How long after replacement do you get the light? I might try keeping a spare in the car and seeing how long it actually takes before the batter is really all the way dead. Maybe the dash warning light is premature?

I just changed mine for the second time since having the car, about once a year average. I suppose it depends on how much you actually use it.

I have not had any issues with mine. I have not needed to change them. I barely use it. I use the tab on the door to open the doors most of the time. Glad to know there's a DIY on this.

Hey Black Betty, the light stays on even right after the battery replacement. I have a spare battery in my pocket now just in case I can't get into the car one day. I find it weird that this would be happening with two independent brand new batteries. I would hate to have to take my car in because of this...lame.

If the light isn't going out after replacing the battery, I'd take it in. Make sure to take a brand new battery still in the package with you so you can show them that. Otherwise they will probably say it's just a bad battery and jerk you around. I'm really interested in seeing what's up in your case.

I guess I'll be making the trip in this Thursday. I well let everyone know the outcome because once again the light was on leaving from work.
