parking on an incline

Will parking on an incline damage your tranny?

No, that's what brakes are for. Of course, it is highly recommended that you use your E-Brake when parking on an incline.

Also, setting your parking brake on steep hills before you put the transmission into the park position will help reduce strain on an automatic transmission.

**** parking on hills. especially nyc hills. worst thing ever with a 6MT.

huh, I never knew that, I just learned something new.

To further expand my knowledge, why does this reduce the strain on the transmission?

The park position on a transmission works by inserting a metal arm, called a pawl, into a gear, which jams the transmission and keeps the car from moving. It is designed to hold the car on relatively flat surfaces. When the car is parked on a very steep hill, the pawl can strain the gears.

To ensure there is absolute zero stress the the gear box, put the gear in neutral first. Apply the parking brake and make sure the brakes are holding the car before putting the gear in park.
