Trade in Value

I almost traded in my G for a 335i this past weekend, consider it a moment of temporary insanity.

I was surprised how well I did for trade in value. My car has 15k miles on it, its black/black Sport 6mt, prem package, splash guards, spoiler. The car listed for close to 40 new and I got it for 36 and change a year and a half ago.

The highest i got was 29.5 and if I had made the deal on the car they would have gone as high as 30k, this is with almost bald tires. This was pretty encouraging, in a year and a half and I was already rightside up on my trade through a dealer. If I had sold privately I might have been able to get a couple grand more. Not bad IMO

Did you negotiate that before you mentioned you had a trade in.if not they may have shown you what want to see,but in reality the price of the other car 335 or on the financing.that's where they play the game.

Nope. I always keep it separate so they can't play that game. I got the best deal on the other car first and then got a trade in value. I also brought it into carmax , and they offered me 29k. So it was pretty close. A lot better then I thought.

wow....a moment of temporary insanity indeed. LOL. It's ok, sometimes it's easy to get the fever for a new ride. Dealers love guys like you! Yeah, the 335i still stares at me as I drive by my BMW dealer, but I know I've got a great performing G37 and for now I've got other things I need to pay off......now in a few years, that's a different story Maybe once the 2012 BMW 3 series is redesigned......

And I would have one right now if they had the color and options I wanted this weekend. I just got two calls from dealers this morning and I told them to forget it. I was caught up in the moment, I had my checkbook in hand and was ready to sign, but the car they had wasn't what I want and I refuse to ever settle.

Another thing is yes, they are redesigning the car in 2012, so I think I will wait to see what that looks like.

Just as a point of reference I traded in my 2008 G37 S 6MT Premium, Nav, Splash, MSRP 42,200 at the time I got it for 39,500. 12,600 miles

Dealer gave me 32k for the S and 39 on a 44775 MSRP G37X coupe.

Really? Redesign in 2012? That's so early compared to how long the previous style went for...or do you mean one of those subtle touch ups?

They just did a touch up this year on the sedan, maybe the coupe is next. But I have read they will redesign for the 2012 model year and I have also seen 2013, so I am not sure what to believe. But 2010 models started coming out early this year so who know, it could be sooner then you think.

agreed. But the car I was looking at was 47k, had fake leather, auto, no bluetooth, no sat radio, no or ipod connectivity. But I could order a car at the price and get everthing I want including 6spd manual.

For what this is worth, I keep seeing this image floating around online for the 2012 3-series redesign. I'm not sure what to think about it yet....except they copied the G37 coupe's 19" wheels!!!!
