The Z is dead. Long live the G!
I have been the proud owner of a 1991 300zx turbo for the past 10 years. I have taken every nut and bolt on that car apart many times. Over the years I have spent hundreds of hours installing big turbos, injectors, intercoolers, exhaust, new leather, etc.
However, With 180 000 hard miles of daily driving it is finally time to retire the Z and start fresh with a G. So yesterday I picked up a slate blue 2009 G37s coupe. Very nice car. Doesn't handle as well as the Z and doesn't have nearly as much power as the Z but that's nothing that can't be solved with a few aftermarket goodies. At least I won't be coming home on the back of a tow truck any more.
Anyways, this is a great forum and reading the posts here were a big part of my selection of the G over the competition. This is the very first new car I have ever owned in my life so I'm looking forward to many years of G ownership and modification.

Currently looking for suggestions. I had these on my Z...

with quad tips, large resonators, test pipes and down pipes. Gotta be one of the best sounding exhaust systems I have ever heard. Not that loud, zero raspiness. Just a beautiful, powerful rumble. I would love to get something to sound close to this on the G37. Any sound clips available?

Congrats man! I had a 93" TT Z with 150k miles on it before i decided it was time to move on. I do miss the Z a lot, but i just consider my G a 4 door Z car sans turbos. Oh how i do miss those turbos....

Ironically, even though I am a professional photographer...

I only have this cell phone photo of my Z which was taken while I was waiting for the tow truck to bring me home earlier this year.
The only other thing I have is a short clip of a dyno pull from when I was tuning the new turbos etc...

I plan to clean it up and do a proper photo shoot with both the Z and the G in a few weeks.
When I found that I was spending more time under the hood than behind the wheel of my Z I knew it was time to put the old girl out to pasture. So, I set out to look for a new version of what I had. I drove both the 370Z and the G37s. They are both great cars but compared to my old Z they both lack power and the interior of the 370Z seems somewhat low rent. I can fix the power deficit on either car but the basic creature comforts are hard to modify so I went with the G.
Basically, I think the 1989-1996 300zx is closer to the G37 than to the 370Z. That's what the "X" is in "ZX", it's a luxury sport.
I miss my turbos, I find myself leaning forward waiting for the power hit that never comes but this is a temporary issue. I find the process of modification and testing to be half the fun! Forced induction, here I come.

a little off topic but your photography is amazing.
Where are you located? Blue Slate is an excellent choice, I had to settle for Black Obsidian because they didn't have a trim in BS that I want.
I've always wanted a 300ZX when I was younger. It looks like a mini lambo to me . Then the G37 came out and it was irresistable. No regrets after 1 year of daily drive here .
I'm sure you'll have many good years of fun and satisfaction ahead of you. And btw, congratz and welcome to the forum .
