well, i did some knocking test with the back of my finger nail and the fender, door... metal parts have a different sound than the hood - which sound like the bumper and the trim piece running between the roof and door. don't know how accurate of a test that is ?!
I think the dead noise you hear is because the heat sheild is on the underside. That's pretty much going to kill as much noise as possible, next to heat protection, its also there to cut the amount of noise coming from the engine bay.
Don't you think plastic would melt sitting over a 130+ degree motor? It would at least warp the paint. Aluminum buddy, thanks for the chuckle.
