You probably wont have any problems but guarentee the one time you do will also be the time you had a couple beers, left the bag of weed in your car, transporting illegal aliens, etc. and then you are effed big time.

here in tx the limit is 20% for the front 2 but thats on inspection.. when i got my inspection license the dps told us that the state troopers walk around saying 25% minimum but ive never really had a problem with it here.. you would think as long as your not acting stupid they would never even notice you..

i think you all should be happy that you can actually tint your windows....in NJ its is illegal to have any tints which completely blows the big one

Same in California. No tint can be applied on the windshield or front side windows. Ppl still do it, though. My tint ticket was dismissed when I went to court for my primary ticket.

I live in CA, where it's illegal to have any tint in the front side windows. On my TSX, which I drove for the last 4 years, I have 35% in the front sides and 20% in the back sides and back. I got two speeding tickets (91 and 86mph), both time, first thing I did when I saw the siren light behind me was rolled down both front windows immediately. Both time I only got ticket for the speeding and nothing else.

A trick I read somewhere is if you are passing a cop on the street or stopped at a light next to one: in the daytime, open the sunroof cover to let more light in; in the night time, turn on your maplight pretending to look for something. Both of these make the tint look lighter and not as obvious. Of course I don't have any loud exhaust/mufflers or blasting my music. I plan to do 20% all around my G37 coupe this time and I'll be following the same trick. But like other said, there's no guarantee.

I’ve got an unusual idea. Why not just drive with legal tint so you won’t have to look over your shoulder all the time or otherwise act like a criminal on the road with all these “tricks”?

I guarantee you’ll be more relaxed and enjoy the driving experience more.

u are from LA too... you should know that summer in LA can get up to 110 degrees. beside the "cool look" of tint, it really does help reduce the inside temp during the summer.

Our cars come with a first-rate air conditioner as standard equipment. So I don’t see the problem there. I have no tints and have been driving comfortably this week in the over 100 degree valley with my car at 74 degrees. As far as the “cool” look of dark tints, well, that’s another matter. It is, at least, an honest answer.

But saying a G37 with a working A/C doesn’t get cool enough even in LA’s hot summers, and the unfounded excuse that illegal tints prevent sunburn and UV rays is not IMO the real reason most illegal tinters have them. So let's continue to be candid here.

I have 35% front and 20% rear and it's a perfect tint. It's just light enough in the front where you won't get hassled by the cops and it's actually legal in many states. 20% or 15% in the front is noticeably tinted and cops don't like it because they can't see into the car when they pull you over. In California, you basically can go as dark as limo in the back 3 windows, but can't have anything darker than 70% in the front (which is basically stock). I've never had a problem at 35% in the front, but I roll down my windows if I get stopped. To me its worth it because of the lack of sun damage to the interior. I am sure a officer will not be a stickler to an responsible person if it's not obnoxiously dark.

Tint ticket

I was driving down to San Diego yesterday morning and saw a Cop (motorcycle) leaving the shoulder from writing a ticket so I made sure I was going the speedlimit... He pulled behind me then passed me ... I was thinking "Phew no problem" WRONG! He looked at me then drifted back and pulled me over for Tint... Said it was too dark and that he would write it as a fix it.. So.....

Yes they can pull you over for just your tint.
No a Dr. note will not work because if you read the DMV it states that you can with a Dr. Note "Affix" a sunscreen device (ie. shade or screen) but it has to be removable at night..

Reason I know this is because I was going to have my Dr. friend right me a note but he and I were both looking over what the DMV actually says and he said I could write the note but it wont work because tint is permenent it's not something you can remove at night.. Sucks.. I have had my Jeep with 17% for 2 years and before that I had a Mazda 6 with Mirror tint and never had a problem.. Now busted and I've only had the car for 3 weeks.. LOL
