Angry Micron filter

Why the Infiniti dealer asked and change the Micron filter for my G37S at 14,000 miles. It's cost me $160 ($100 for labor). Am I not smart to let they ripped me off?
What the micron filter does for my G?

it filters the air coming into your cabin. when working it will prevent dust, pollen etc from coming in. it sounds like you went in for the 15K service interval? $100 labor is ridiculous to pop open a panel and insert a new filter.

I think you mean they changed the in cabin micro filter. It is much more difficult to reach and not an easy swap out. I don't know if it requires a full hour's labor (which is what you were charged for), but I don't think you were blatantly ripped off.

I don't know if the G35 had it or how difficult it is to reach.

you didn't really get "ripped off" since $100 per hour is a pretty standard labor charge that dealerships charge. i was just saying it's ridiculous considering that it's an easy DIY. The cabin filter is behind your glovebox by the way. And no, it's not covered by your warranty since it's considered a wear and tear part.

I will never come back to that dealer anymore. Next time, I will do the oil change at Nissan dealer. Also, they charge $22 labor for changing Air filter, Oil change labor $30,
patch to nail in a tire $45. Out the door I pay $339.... no more shopping this month...
And it's Tustin Infiniti in Socal.

Keep in mind that the Nissan dealer will charge you more than $22 to change that in cabin micro filter as well, that price is for the regular air filters under the hood that anyone (even you) can change yourself in 2 minutes without any car knowledge or even tools. They would probably charge an hour labor as well, maybe $65 or so to change the in cabin. Next time get with some of the forum members near you who are good at working on cars and get them to help you for free or maybe cheap.

I'd help you if you lived near Houston. I'm sure someone will help you out.

Come out to a meet and I'd be more than happy to show you that you can change your air filter in about 20 seconds (for the entire thing).

The in-cabin microfilter is usually a 1 hour job the first time you do it. Once you are familiar with the process, 20 minutes or less.

The service schedule has the replacement interval for this filter at 15K miles. No filter would last 50K. This is unfortunately a necessary part of our ventilation system. As others have said you can save about $100+ dollars and do it yourself but it requires some minimal disassembly of the lower passenger dash to get to it.

Thank you all, guys. I learn a lot.
On the check list, air conditioner filter (?) need to be changed too. I might ask my co-worker (own a black G37) change it for me.

Thanks,

Could anyone who has changed the cabin air filter post pics of the process? Is there pictures already on the web of this process? Any help would be appreciated.
