7AT Guys-->compare it to the 5 AT for me

I am working to finalize my dream car: an 08 or 09 IP or MW Coupe Journey Sport. Right now of course the deal is MUCH better on the 08. For those of you that have owned the 5 AT and now have a 7 AT....how do you like it? Is it quicker? Is your fuel economy that much more noticeable? The thing about the 7 AT; doesn't it shift like CONSTANTLY? I know the sport will came with paddle shifters, but 7 gears almost seems like too many. HELP!!!! I'm torn

There's pro's and con's with each. 6MT's are nice but this is a lux sport coupe, not a sports car and this auto is smooth as silk in D which is nice when you want that ride. I've never driven the 7AT but it would have to suck tremendously for me not to want to go that route. If it doesn't feel as fast or pull as hard then screw the numbers and save some cash. Drive them both and see which you like better. One thing, the 5AT cruises at 3.3KRPM at 80Mph which is my typical cruise speed. That's just enough to hear the car, with 3rd party exhaust that is. Next to looking good, sounding good is important as well and the 7AT would probably sound like the rest of the luxury cars... ie no sound.

I was considering to get 5at or 7at, but i end up with the 7at one basically is because the 7at one is quicker and smoother. Also the sales told me that 7at save more gas, but i don't know cuz i never had a 5at before. It is all up to you, i believe that the 08 model is so much cheaper than the 09 one. the dealer nearby me are offering 8k or more off the MSRP for the 2008 models.

^Sweet. Thanks for the input. The g35 I've driven the past 2 years is a 5at and I still love it like the day I got it. I'm almost resiliant in getting rid of it I do want the sound. I already know a guy with a Stillen CAI for sale, and HKS is my absolut FAV exhaust . Let's see what kind of numbers I can talk on the 08. Its an IP G37 S with a Graphite interior by the way...

having to drive both and always having this answer... off the line, the 7at does sound more responsive. with the great incentives on the '09, it's well worth getting into it than the '08.

There's plenty of sound on the 7 AT, don't know what you are talking about.

7AT feels a little more responsive from a dig-it runs through 1st gear quicker- partially because of the shorter gear. For whatever reason- to me- 2nd gear in the 5AT feels slightly better.
