Hey everyone. I bought my 2008 G37 on the 3rd of this month it had 5200 miles on it nav prem tech 4WAS, everything was perfect except when inspecting it before buying I noticed the driver side front fender was repainted. No big deal, its not unusual at all for a dealer to have the paint touched up before trying to sell it. I finally started really looking over the car the other day checking into every nook and cranny under the hood. I found 4 holes drilled into the body under the hood 2 on the driver side 2 on the passenger side. Less then 1/4" in diameter. One of the holes still had a screw in it and the screw was holding on this weird bracket right above the passenger side wheel well. Why were these holes drilled? And what the hell is this bracket from? It is a mystery to me, but obviously the previous owner did some mods that either he or the dealer had removed. Maybe you guys and girls in the forum can shed some light on this. Thanks!

Also in one of the pics you can see someone cut out a section of the radiator cover.

looks like a mount for HID fogs ballast.. some people use it.. but i juz double side taped mine

 

Hmm.. I'll have to check under my hood to see if mine is like that. I think your assumption is right. The dealer either got the car back from someone who had modified it or the car was involved in a collision.

 

That is 1000000000% an aftermarket HID ballast mount.

 

Thanks for the input, now the question is who recently demodded their IP on Graphite G37S 6mt with nav tech and 4WAS and sold it or turned it in off lease with about 5200 miles on it? Maybe he or she is or was a member here? Just being curious.

 

Its possible, but hid fogs isnt really specific enough to narrow it down.

definitely hid fogs...that's the bracket that holds the ballast

the holes are def indicative of where you would "hide" a ballast (away from heat and water)..... my vote is there

Thanks for the input. I think everyone is in agreement that it is a hid ballast mount. Why a section of the radiator cover was cutout I don't know though. I am pretty sure I have identified who owned this car previously to me. It took me a while but after searching through 1000's of photo's on G35NYC.com I identified what looks to be my car.
