OP:
How nice is your apartment complex? What kind of cars are other people driving there? Do you have the nicest one in the lot?

All I can say is I'm glad I have a garage to park in and a parking garage at work so the car stays out of the open air most of the time. The minute I park it in my driveway or go out is when the birds take aim. Very annoying seeing as how our paint is already so soft. I've got stains on the paint already from those damn dookie bombs!
I'm very **** about my car (fingerprints bother me!) so having at least something to park under (car port or even some type of cover) would be good.
My last car had custom paint, rims, and a viper alarm but when I sold her, the person that bought it didn't have a garage. It was stolen from him in less than 2 months after he bought it from me. I was pissed to find out my hard work at keeping her clean and waxed and looking good went down the drain. The car is probably in Mexico right now in a chop shop...=(
An alarm might deter a low level thief but for someone with more experience, if they want your car, they'll get it. My friend had a top of the line alarm with pager system installed on his GSR and it was broken into while parked on a main thorough fair street under a street light! The alarm never went off. They had a saws-all and cut his steering wheel to take the Club off and they were taking apart the brain of the alarm as he was getting back to his car.
I personally would not have gotten my G if I didn't have a garage. Gives me more peace of mind at night.

when i bought mine i had my own personal garage.... but work made me move to another area and now it stays in a private parking garage.... no issues thus far and if there ever was, THAT'S WHY YOU PAY INSURANCE!

I'm in Nyc, Jamaica Queens. No one messes with anyones **** other than there trash when going through it for cans (bums). I keep my car in my driveway or backyard with the gate padlocked at night.

Before I go ahead and read everyone response... Don't leave you G37 outside unattended overnight. If you haven't noticed yet, there are several forum member accross the country who have gotten their wheels stolen. Some even twice because they left their car sleep outside. If you can't afford a garage anytime soon then you better invest into the best of the best in car alarm and wheel lock.
My 2 cent.

If I couldn't afford both a place with a nice garage and my G, then I wouldn't have bought my G. I drove beaters my whole life until I knew I could get a nice place with a big 2-car garage, then I bought a nice car.
IMO, garage comes before nice car.

Rent part of house with a garage, but I wouldn't put my G in there because it is more likely to get scratched there than parked outside. Although during week days I park my car in a garage at work. Just don't park it under a tree outside, away from other cars, wax once a month and get new wheel locks and a gun
