Carbon Fiber Hood/Trunk....Yea or Nay?
Yea or Nay on carbon fiber hoods/trunks? We all know the G37 is heavy, but is there really any significant weight lost from putting these on? I was just looking at some of the Seibon stuff as well as pictures on here from one of the California meets (you Cali guys/gals have all the fun), on the 17th I think and saw a couple of owners who had CF stuff. Looked kinda cool to me (maybe a tad bit ricey but not bad). So yea or nay on the CF hoods/trunks?

if you do a traditional CF hood, say Seibon you won't see much reduction in weight. if you do the new one from Showstoppers which is fully bagged you will see weight reduction. I think if your going to do the hood and trunk you also need to paint the roof black. That would be sick on some gold rims or something you like. Slightly smoke the headlights and tails... BAMMMMM

It depends on what you do with your G...
If you go to meets, take your car to the track, and generally like to show your car off, then carbon fiber body panels look awesome and certainly get attention.
But if you ever pull up to a yacht club, country club, or a fancy restaurant with a carbon fiber hood or trunk, the only respect you're going to get is from the high school kids working the valet.
Personally, my G spends 90% of it's time at my office, the golf course, and the yacht club, so I would never make any major cosmetic changes that old rich white folks might find trashy. I let my actions destroy my credibility, not my car.

Why would you paint a CF trunk or hood when if by a purist since you want it for weight reduction yet you would add paint and clear coat to it? The weight reduction is so minimal anyway that its a show item and I think leaving it CF makes it stand out better. I guess I will be leaving my hood and trunk as is on my OB...and paint the roof white or something!

Love that quote, mind if I use it sometime? Haha. That's true though, people judge you/your ride. I won't be going to yacht clubs any time, I hate flaunting money around with other yuppies haha. Yeah a few shows, meets but probably never the track in my case. Good advice.
