Navigation in Europe??

I need your help guys and I did a search with no results. Getting a used G37S with 6500 on the clock for around 32500 (Blue Slate) full options excluding tech. Question is, will the Nav work over in Europe (Germany)? Have a FX45 and the Nav in it does not work over here, no matter what we tried, but it was DVD based. But the new one is hard drive based, and the dealer said it should work, just have to download Europe info to the hard drive. Anyone know if this is true? Thanks ahead of time for any help you can give me.

That sounds correct. There are several owners from the Middle East, Japan, Guam so I'm assuming it's all about the software. Last I heard a Nav update would run you about $170US. You will likely have to pay to get everything installed and as far as I know it must be done at an Infiniti (possibly Nissan) dealer.

thanks

Thanks for the reply and I really hope you are correct, because it was a nightmare trying to get the Nav in the FX working. If they do a update, it will have to be at my friendly neighborhood Nissan dealer, because Infiniti has not made it to Germany yet.

Just found out that the two systems are not compatable. Can't understand how you can go out and purchase a off the shelf system that works anywhere in the world and Infiniti makes Nav systems that are region specific?? That does not pass the common sense test to me, I mean it has to be more expensive to do it that way. Infiniti, if you read these sites, why not make a system that all you have to do is add the software of where you are located??? I have a Garmin in Germany and all I have to do was tell it what area I was located in, and BOOM, navigation!! You have many guys that are in the military or work for the military and we get sent overseas with your vehicles!! Think about it and try to correct that silly mistake!

Sorry guys for the rant, but this is the second time, first one was with my FX and now with my G37S Coupe. Both times the dealer said it would work overseas, and its not like its a free option, this thing is freaking expensive!!!

Sorry to hear about that. Maybe you can buy one without Navi and install one yourself. A thread with instructions was linked in another thread on navigation in this section.

To late, that's the problem. I asked over and over if the Nav would work in Europe and they told me it would, just a simple software update. Now they tell me the two are totally different systems! Car is bought and on the boat, headed to Germany.

Hmmm....I would think if you took an image of a Euro G37's hard drive and restored it onto a US version it'd work. I don't see why hardware would factor in since it should be the same across the board. Only real difference I can think of between the two systems would be the metric units used, and that should definitely be on the software side.

I'd dig deeper before jumping to this conclusion...

Guys, you have no idea how much I am praying you are correct!! I mean at the moment, there is not a fix and the guys on the phone are either to lazy or not knowlegable enough to speak on it. So most of the time all they can say is, "it's two different systems" but this makes no since to me! WHY in the world (if its hardrive based) would Infiniti install different Navs all over the world, that does not pass the common since test. I'm hoping they come up with a fix (soon) because they're many over here in the same boat as I am.

The reason why they'd do it that way is to deter Euros from buying a much cheaper car in North America and importing it to Europe instead of buying a Euro spec car locally for a much higher price.

Your best bet would be to get one out of a crashed car in a salvage yard except that there probably aren't any yet. Perhaps try a unit from a different Infiniti model maybe if you can get it cheap enough?
