what do u usually shift at?

i shift at around 2.5 - 3 range and my buddy keeps bugging me about it not being good for the engine... saying since its a sports car i should be ripping it at higher revs... ive heard this elsewhere as well is it true?

i usually shift around that range for better gas milege... also.. im sitting at around 12,000 clicks.. so my clutch still grabs relatively hard, unless i ride the clutch slightly when i shift.. the car rocks a bit.. do i just suck at shifting or is this normal? THANKS!!
Your buddy is an idiot... This VQ makes tones of Torque down low so there is no need to turn it up unless you just want to... I usually shift anywhere between 2-3500K depending on traffic flow or how I feel if I'm just riding or commuting... Your buddy must own a VTEC
With that said, it will hurt nothing to turn it up if you want to, but your just burning fuel and causing more wear over the life of the engine for no good reason. I do run the sh*t out of mine, even to redline a few times a week just because I like it, but most of the time I just keep it down low...

For me:

2,500 - 3,500 normal driving conditions.

5,500-7,500 to have fun.

I've got about 4,000 miles now and my clutch is hard on cold start and smooth on warm-up. I too have probs with the first gear engage.

I'm not 100% use to the feel so I have to hear the engine for a good take-off.

Also on note I do hear a clank sometimes when the second gear shift comes all the way back to its position. I told the dealership about it and its not fixed. I've heard other complain about this too on the forum.
