the "A" pillar is verticle structual part of your car that separates the front windshield glass from the side glass (you have 2 "A" pillars). The "A" just designates the first one. The next pillar on a car might be the verticle member that separates the front and rear side windows on a sedan. That would be the "B" pillar. Then the one that separates the rear glass passengers door from the rear windshield would be the "C" pillar.
