Anyone ever experienced this situation?

Hi guys, I have a 5spd auto and yesterday something strange happened, Im in the regular D mode when I made a normal left hand turn from a stop. After completing the turn the car switched to 2nd gear, Rpm was about 2000ish, I wanted to pass the person next to me so I stepped on it a little harder, it downshifted back into 1st gear and the rpm jumped to 3000ish? I cant really remember exact rpm but heres the main thing, My car hesitated pretty bad, the car was revving up and down like I hit the rev limiter but at 2500rpm to 3000rpm jumping up and down, I didnt have any traction control or slip light on. It hesitated for probably a good 3-5 seconds. Its a one time thing, but its really getting to me now, my car has only 1600 miles on it and It shouldnt be doing that. anybody know what happened?

I've noticed the Auto sometimes can't figure out my intended throttle response is, but it's usually very breif. Usually my problem is merging on the highway. After speeding up, it doesn't want to upshift as soon as i'd like sometimes. It just kind of holds 4th for a little too long.
I wouldn't think too much of it, probably time to get a grounding kit.

In "D" it usually doesn't hunt around, but in "DS" my G will hunt all over the place if I don't drive it hard and tell it want I want it to do. The problem with these new transmissions is they like to "learn" and if you teach them gramma and grampy accell & turns that's what you will get.

I really dont mind it hunting for a gear, I know it does that once in a while but the revs were bouncing like it had hit the rev limiter but at 2500-3000 rpm.

I haven't experienced this. Are you able to get it to duplicate pretty easy? If so take it in to the dealer. If you can vdeo it that might help as well.
