From what I've seen/read I think the car strikes a perfect balance between luxury and performance, and it has the looks to go with it.

I'm also sick of everyone comparing everything to the GT-R. It's undeniably a sick car, but it also is a car that I would never buy. Nissan f*cked up big by selling a car that you void the warranty on if you drive it the way it's advertized stock. Look it up online, turn on the launch control and you void your warranty. They have already made people pay $20k to replace blown transissions. The GT-R in this respect is a huge failure, it is not the fastest performance car in its price range because you void the warranty and break it if you drive it the way it's advertized as being able to be driven. Heck, they might as well include bottles of NOS installed OEM and advertize the car as having 600whp with a shot of NOS, oh but if you use the NOS it voids your warranty, and using the NOS will probably break the car.
Tell me about it. I completely agree with you on that. Nissan should have made the launch control one big red button that says "do not push". The fact that they are sticklers about the feature and voiding your warrenty for using that OEM feature.

Anyway, I know that while the girlfriend gets a huge smile out of being pinned in her seat around a corner at ridiculous speeds, I think she would also get as huge of a smile from pulling up to valley park the car at a restaurant in a G coupe. You guys have a wonderfull car and should apreciate it, or if you don't I'd be glad to take it off oyur hands.
I have been looking into the Evo as my Second car. Kinda funny that you are doing the same with the G being your second car. The one thing that makes me shy away from it is that I have read on the evolutionm forums that Mitsubishi are terrible about honoring warranty work if you lightly modify the evo. By lightly I mean exhaust and intake, nothing to invasive. At least Nissan is good about honoring warranty work if the mod is not affecting the problem.

Yeah, one of the favorite quotes on the forums is "warranty? what warranty?" Now that said, there are the ridiculous stories about voided warranties which had me worried. However, I'm pretty active on the forums (evoxforums and evom) and I haven't seen any major problems with the car. I think I did see one about about a blown transfer case that the guy had fixed under warranty no problems. However that is also an issolated instance and i think he was the only one so far.

I personally got the car when it first came out and had a few minor idling problems with the car stalling. They released a couple new ECU flashes since then that fixed that. I've never had any issues with the dealer (of course i'm still 100% stock). It seems from my research that warranty work is very dealer dependant. However, as i said their have not been any major problems for anyone, and there are alot of cars running 350-400whp. AMS ran the car on stock engine internals at 480whp with an upgraded turbo. But this is the point of the Evo, it's such a mod friendly car cause it doesn't break. So you don't really need your warranty.

Now that said, I'm talking about the GSR with the bullet proof 5speed manual. The MR with the new TC-SST, I don't know much about as people have been really cautious tuning it. Everyone seems to be waiting on the guinee pig to see what the transmission can handle. But thats an $8k transmission to replace if you break it. But if your getting the Evo to mod then the GSR is designed for that, the MR is if you don't want to mod or want to go very basic (cat-back, breather mods, maybe conservative tune).

Ok, and lastly. 2 things to note if you are interested in the GSR. the clutch is sh*t. People have worn it out befor like 3k miles. Now, this was my first stick and I'm at 11k miles with no clutch issues. that includes probably 20 launches and 2 hard days at the track. So I'm inclined to say people who burned it out by 3k just didn't drive it properly. However, I don't expect it to last much longer, maybe 15k-20k miles. So I've got $1500 set aside for an aftermarket clutch, however those last a long time then so it might just be a 1 time expense. Plus if your going for more horespower you would need to upgrade the clutch anyway.
Secondly, the tires wear extremelly fast and you cannot drive on them in the cold (they harden up a ton). So just expect winter/all seasons as an added expense. Besides that, oil change every 3k miles (buy your own oil at wallmart $25 + dealer oil change $30 = $55. better then $85 dealer charges if you use their oil).

Those will be your costs, to make it easier to plan for.

But taken that you can get a GSR with SSS (sight sound spoiler: gets youthe HIDs, the Rockford fosgate speakers, and the larger spoiler) MSRP $35,655 for $32k then it's a pretty good deal in my opinion.

Anyway, I love my car. After this winter I'm doing intake, exhaust, EBC and a tune. Should be good for an additional 100+ whp and is gonna cost me about $2,500 (I'm not going for cheap parts). That and maybe a set of lowering springs ($300) or coilovers ($1700 for the kw3s) depending on my financial situation. And as I said, I'm no longer worried about warranty as the cars just don't break (warranty is only 3/36000 anyway). But I LOVE the car, and if you can I've never driven a car that handles as beautifully (but as I mentioned, never driven the g37 )

Oh, and I hate mustang gt's. Their's no feeling like having them pull up next to you, laugh and rev their "oh soo cool" crappy v8. and then watching as their bumper gets tinier and tinier in your rearview mirror, especially if their are any curves. (oh, yeah the evo gets ALOT of attention, some of it not necessarilly the best. civic with fart cannons who think they are as cool as you...)

Yeah, the new one is more civil in the sense that it is nicer inside and I personally think looks way better. This has led to the rumor that it isn't as performance orientated, which has been shown repeatedly to be untrue. Is the new Evo gonna beat an old 8/9 on every track, no. but the 8/9s didn't necessarilly beat the 7s lol. The new ones have a stiffer chasis and a much better safety rating, and also gain power easier then the 8/9s and appear to be even more tuner friendly. They also Active Yaw Controll which is just sick on the track.

But sorry, never was trying to divert the topic. I just wanted to say I think the G is a sick car and I'm in the boat with you wanting one. I actually could afford the payments but then I'd be really cutting it tight right now in this economy which I don't think is the best idea. Who knows, maybe I'll look at the '10s.
