Tint Laws at your State
Is it illegal to have front Tints at your State? It is her ein California so i am hesitant about getting 20% all around, Maybe 20% rear, 30% front? Or should i just do 20% all around anyways?

I could be wrong, but in NY, anything darker than factory tinted front windows is not legal. So check the laws in your state before you become a cop magnet.

Determine if you want to comply with the law or not. My understanding is that in California you get "fix it' tickets. If you want to go darker than what's legal be prepared to face the consequencse and have to fix it.
PS - Can a sticky be made (perhaps modding 411 section?) with the above link to the site that has solid information on what is and isn't legal regarding window tint in each state? Yes, I know that nobody will ever read it and answer their own question as to what is or isn't legal, but at least it'll be there.

Cali's law is 98% tint on the front driver and passenger, which only cuts UV rays, it has no darkening quality. No windsheilds. So its basically no tint on driver and passenger windows, you can completely black out all the back windows. Personally living in Cali all my life I've had either 20% all around (besides the windsheild), or 20% and the step up like 30% on the driver/passenger window, never been really hasseled about it. Of course, I do have my front plate on so I think its a little give and take. Typically you'll only catch a tint ticket on top of other infractions. Irvine PD is the only cops dumb enough to pull me over for just tint. I think they were just seeing if they could get a better infraction because after the cop ran my DL, he just came back and said you may go, I'm not going to give you a ticket this time.

untrue about the 98% on the front windows for cali. i work at a car audio/ window tint shop in san diego. ive asked numerous officers, even ones that have come to my shop about this. 70% is the only "legal" limit on the front pass and driver doors. it is very very slightly tinted but almost clear. like stated earlier its just used for uv protection and heat rejection. as far as back windows in cali you can go as dark as you want, spray paint it black for all they care but good luck backin up! i have had several different shades on my front windows ranging from 40% down to 5%. obviously the lighter you go the less hassle and attention you will get. officers have all told me that they are only worried about their personal safty walkin up to a vehicle. but technically a cop can pull you over for anything which is unfortunate. most of the time they usually get you for speeding, tinted tails, or other infractions and will site you for the window tint. or if your lucky only site you for the window tint and warning for anything else. as far as the tickets go, its just a $10 fix it ticket here in cali. remove, get ticket signed by CHP, go to courthouse and pay fee..... then go tint it again ..... i think that just about covers it
