Graham you look incredible! How high would the premiums be on an insurance policy that covered those looks!?
To the OP,
In Michigan you can tint dark as you want on the back seat windows and rear windshield. There is a technical rule that says on the front/passenger windows you can only tint to 4 inches from the top of the window so that it doesn't block the view at head level for the driver or passenger and so that your face can be seen as the driver. Obviously this partial tinting of a window would look very bad, lol, so people either just don't tint the front, or like me will typically go for 35% in the front so that it's not dark enough to get pulled over at all! I have 35% on all sides and 20% on the rear windshield. However I must say that many of my friends do 20% all around and do not get pulled for it. As long as you drive a decent car and not a ricer or a rusty beater you're fine.
The front windshield (where the wipers are) can only legally be tinted with a light sensitivity prescription from your eye doctor as well as that problem being listed on your driver's license as a problem you have. I really don't see a point in tinting the front - when you have tint all around the light stays out of the cabin pretty well enough so that head on drivers can not see you anyway!

you have mail 619G-ride!
untrue about the 98% on the front windows for cali. i work at a car audio/ window tint shop in san diego. ive asked numerous officers, even ones that have come to my shop about this. 70% is the only "legal" limit on the front pass and driver doors. it is very very slightly tinted but almost clear. like stated earlier its just used for uv protection and heat rejection. as far as back windows in cali you can go as dark as you want, spray paint it black for all they care but good luck backin up! i have had several different shades on my front windows ranging from 40% down to 5%. obviously the lighter you go the less hassle and attention you will get. officers have all told me that they are only worried about their personal safty walkin up to a vehicle. but technically a cop can pull you over for anything which is unfortunate. most of the time they usually get you for speeding, tinted tails, or other infractions and will site you for the window tint. or if your lucky only site you for the window tint and warning for anything else. as far as the tickets go, its just a $10 fix it ticket here in cali. remove, get ticket signed by CHP, go to courthouse and pay fee..... then go tint it again ..... i think that just about covers it

responded pogie!
honestly, drivin around with limo on my explorer and 20% on the 37 i havent gotten a whole lot of problems in San Diego from the police. in the explorer it was always noise and disturbing the peace and then would tag me for window tint .... i got a few tix for just the window tint but its not a bad thing. remove, sign off, pay $10, go put it back on. anybody in San Diego need tint all give deals to members of the forum so just let me know. go with what makes you happy cuz thats what really matters! and if you do see a cop just roll the windows down if youre that concerned about it .... its usually the CHP bikers that are the A-holes about it. good luck all and happy modding!

From what the tint shop said here in Ca is that 70% is legal side windows, it doesn't look like anything darker than the normal windows. no real tinting factor.
I know that we had 50% on side windows and 20% on all rear windows, on my wifes is300.
My 08 Z06 had 5% rear window, 35% side windows no problem here, anything darker than 35% it may be a problem. A guy at work has them at 20% side windows and they are asking for a ticket.
hope this helps a little
