Car&Driver takes on G37 track handling
#31
...Ifs funny how different this review is from the one that was done when the car was first released. There was no limp mode issue at all when it was initially released and tested hard against the 335 which did have limp mode issues.
i wonder if Infiniti changed something on later released models that's causing the limp mode.

I kind of saturated myself with all the track type stuff I could find last Spring.
I came away with a very positve feeling given the weekend warrior type tracking I'll be doing a couple times per yr.
I kind of just dismissed reading about it after that as I had come to a conclusion concerning the G37's tracking capabilities.
Nobody mentions anywhere in anything that I read, a "limp mode" condition.
Gotta wonder what gives-

That was a stupid article. What magazine had the cover "The King is Dead" and had the G37 vs 335i? Which ever auto magazine that was, they clearly stated that the G37 out handled the 335i on the track. I take C&D reviews with a grain of salt.

That was the MT article. They also had the video that raved over the G37s track manners.

^ That's one car. Anybody else run at the track? I have driven my car hard over an extended period(No, not around the block to the grocery store, but at least as hard as that car was "track" driven) and have never gone into any kind of limp mode.

I still dont know why everyone compares the G37 to the 335, its not in the same price bracket. for around $40k and equally equipped, you are in a 328, not a 335. Why not compare the G37 to the new M3? might as well, ppl are always comparing a $50k 335 to our G37, might as well go all out and compare the $60k M3 with our car since price category is not an issue... yeah, a entry model 335 is around $40k but an entry model G37 is around $33ish. $33k is the price of their stinking 328. Im pretty sure a base G37 can run around in circles versus their 328.

Yes, you don't get the "BMW" name but you get the style and value with the G37S. Have you ever looked inside a 335i? The interior looks like a brand new 1985 station wagon threw up on it. The bimmer interior has NO style whatsoever. NO character. NO personality. The Bimmer engine is where it shines (TT) but you also pay for it, $10K more.

That's because Infiniti's target is the 335, not the 328. Base model to base model would be the 328 vs. the G base model. The price difference is about the value you get with a G37S, compared to the 335i. More or less the same features but you save $10k with a G37S.

And with that 10k, you can have a G37 with a twin turbo and destroy a 335i
