Break in period

Am I the only one that thinks that I dunno...maybe the engineers who built the car might know what they're talking about? I doubt infiniti would say this without a reason (and yes, I'm guessing they put a some padding in there...but still...)
Just because some rando motor-bike mechanic on the internet manages to post a website about hard-break-in and why its better, doesn't mean he's actually right.
I did a 98% gentle break-in, and I'm one of the ones getting ~20mpg city. My used oil analysis at 2670mi said the car wasn't even done shedding wear metals yet (yup), FWIW. If I recall correctly, one of the guys who's posted one of the best 1/4mi timeslips around here was a gentle-break in guy as well. More power? Hmmm...I dunno. It's food for thought.
My point...I don't have one. Do what you want, it's your car. But engineers usually aren't completely full of ****.
During the first 1,200 miles (2,000 km), follow
these recommendations to obtain maximum
engine performance and ensure the future reliability
and economy of your new vehicle.
Failure to follow these recommendations may
result in shortened engine life and reduced engine
performance.
c Avoid driving for long periods at constant
speed, either fast or slow. Do not run the
engine over 4,000 rpm.
c Do not accelerate at full throttle in any gear.
c Avoid quick starts.
c Avoid hard braking as much as possible.

I do think it is padded as 2,000km is a nice round number. I am going to vary the speed and not push the car to hard.
However, I do believe some hard driving will hekp everything seal properly but car makers would be hesitant to follow to state that.
I would definely follow the directions for at least 500 miles.

I broke in my g35 very hard and have driven hard since I left the dealers lot 93,000 miles ago..I have zero oil consumption, and the engine is solid and runs as new.
I do regular maintenance and changed to synthetic in engine/transmission/diff at 2K miles.
what I do not understand is why my G35 got much better in acceleration and gas mileage around the 5,000 mile mark. This has been reported on G35driver by others??
Hope G37 does the same!

That's normal for a vehicle as it breaks in. Magazines will usually find that long term test vehicles get faster during their early life.

Maybe that'll mean the 0-60 numbers will really sit at 5.0-5.2 instead of the 5.4-6.1 we've seen published immediately after the car was released.

The car is slow off the line but pulls really hard from about 60 on. There is a lot mot to performance than 1/4 mile time. You can spend a lot less money if you want something that is just fast from the line.
