This car was not made for 0-60. It's design was for the higher-end power and control. Getting off the line doesn't seem to be the goal of this car. On the stretch and during the higher rev, that's where the power and control come into play.

Cruising on the freeway at 3200rpm sucks when the 3series BMW (the competition that Infiniti is targeting) is running at 2800.

We all know what to expect from this car. It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. However, ppl are just hoping that the 7AT would help a little bit. NO ONE IS EXPECTING 10mpg increase with the 7AT but every little bit helps.

But our redline is 500rpms higher, so you can't compare it 1:1 to the 3 series.

Also, the VQ may be more efficient at that slightly higher rpm. It's all about the engineer's design...

To a certain extent it will no doubt help gas mileage. But gas mileage has a lot to do with how far the gas pedal is down. Do an experiment. Drive in 4th gear and shift to 5th keep the pedal in the same spot, the MPG meter doesn't move much at all. Perhaps with 2 extra gears it will make more of a difference but I'm predicting not a whole lot.
The extra gears will likely do more for the purpse of helping with engine noise at cruising speeds and give it a couple of extra grinding gears in the middle. It is also a good marketing strategy.
Much depends on what the final gear ratio is in determining what the exact benefit will be.

What the heck is the 0-60 on an '08 6MT coupe given the sedan with 306hp and a little less weight pulled off a 5.3 second.

It feels faster than my '05 G35 coupe 6MT and that car I could shift flawlessly.

The numbers that I have seen in the mid range are about equal.
In fact Motor Trend commented that neither car pulled away from the other in their various tests from rolling starts.

I wonder if we'd all choose to pay +$5k for our cars if we got these niceties? Maybe this is the sort of thing a true Premium package should be for.
HA, maybe if it was a couple years ago it wouldn't be so bad. With our dollar as weak as it is, it'd cost a fortune to get a euro version.

+2.

There's still a slim chance that there may be some noticeable increase in fuel economy. I've noticed that Nissan/Infiniti uses 3 different final drive ratios in their FM vehicles: 3.357; 3.538 and 3.692. The FX35 AWD tested uses the 3.692 axle ratio and does 60mph at 1960rpm in top gear. And the 3.357 axle is what the FX35 RWD uses. If my guess is correct, the 3.357 will bring down the rpms@60 to about 1750 or so correct? I say let's wait and see what the deal is on the FX35 RWD before we make a final judgement call on the new 7A. I'm hoping and praying that Infiniti will have the wisdom to use the 3.357/7A combo in the G37S coupe.

I personally don't expect a major jump in gas mileage, but it would be great for me if the G37S 7A could squeeze out 28+ mpg at 75mph.....
