G37 as my performance car?????

I agree with the others that the Z might be a good way to go.

I'd love to find ways to shed pounds without impacting the functionality of the car itself. That would be my ideal.

Check this out if you are looking for what seems to be a true performance car, numbers seem right, now to see what it can really do under testing.

Flat out you will be very disapointed from the S2000 to the G37. granted you get more toys and gizmos and more luxury factor but in pure driving bliss its nowhere near as nice. i have to be honest i love my S2000 and loved my E46 M3. two great chassis and amazing motors. the G37 is just weak in those two area's in comparison to those cars.

dude, track car is a no brainer... specially in that $ bracket! GET A 2003/04 M3. They're going for 30k still under warranty (CPO). You cant go wrong with that... and if you want better performance... supercharge it, coilovers, strut bar. Now you have a monster!

I'd say Cayman in "S" version only. Carrera S cars are lovely too, but Hi $$$ -- maybe a clean older model would be a good choice. Porsches are great cars in the twisties.... even though Caymans do not have LSD.
I have a 2005 S2K. The gear box just about spoils you for anything else, but I'm hoping to get a G37 along about May. I know it won't provide that raw, great fun-factor you get with S2000s, but I think I'll be quite happy with the G-car!
Good luck with whatever your choice turns out to be with a new car!
