Initial Impressions From New Owner (car nut)
I was reading on this site long before I purchased so I finallly took the plunge. I also have the premium package with navigation . I have had my vibrant red 6speed sport for about two weeks now and thought I would share some comparisons:
I'll focus on previous sports cars I've owned, 350 Z, Evo, S2000 and IS350 (that are close on performance).
In my opinion, the 37 is a good compromise of luxury/sport. It does not have the raw power of the Evo, but it much more refined. It does not shift as smooth as the S2000, but the ride and interior are much nicer. Power wise it seems close to the IS350, but more room inside (front). I think the IS has better materials inside, but the 37 is very good (My Z was an 03, so HUGE improvement there!) The Infinite reminds me of a "grown up" 350Z. It has the low-end grunt that I have missed for a while (replaced 07 Civic Si). Looks-wise, I think it is a beautiful car compared to the others I've had.
My only minor gripe so far is the shifter is a little stiff. Especially the 1-2 shift which feels like it grinds unless you do a very slow shift (yes, clutch is to the floor). I remember my Z doing this, not sure why Nissan doesn't improve the syncros. The other small thing is the headroom is a bit tight. I will be able to tell when I need a hair cut by my hair rubbing the headliner.

I've heard the IS350 comparison before - that the IS is 'nicer'.
I don't know about that.
I had a G35 6mt coupe for a couple years ago until about two years back which was great fun. Loud, and rode rough thanks to the stiff suspension, but fun as heck to drive.
The girl convinced me to go sedan - and the G sedan back then was.. nevermind. I just don't like it. heh.
Only option beside a weak and expensive bmw 3 series was the lexus IS350. Which (unlike the same damn car but smaller engine) doesn't come in a stick. Bah!
So I got one. Nice interior, very quiet compared to the old G. And boring as hell to drive. Slushbox + very very eager tractionnanny == boring as hell.
Just picked up a G37 6mt about a month ago. (My girl relented after a year or so - I was so unhappy driving that car.) I do not in any way miss the IS - including the interior. I may actually argue that the fit and polish of the G is at least as nice if not nicer, actually. It's *loads* quieter than the G35 inside - and I'd argue that it isn't any louder than the IS either.
There are only a couple things that I miss about the IS. On turning it off, the steering wheel automatically went in and up to assist in getting out. That'd be nice for me - I'm pretty tall. The autodimming external mirrors were nice, too. That's about it. *(:=

I can't wait (break-in) to get some spirited driving in. Then I will be able to tell much more about the car. So far it has been a blast except for the silly TPS light that is staying on (My 350Z did the exact same thing on the way home back in 03!). One of my favorite little touches is below

Really? I really like the G37's roof lining a lot more than the IS's. It's got a little texture/pattern to it.. I just noticed it the other day, actually.
I had an 07 IS350, so maybe that one was a little different. I'm a little intrigued by your back seat revisions comment - wonder how that played out. On mine you might as well have been in the back of the G there was so little room back there. Tho at least you had a door instead of having to climb through like the G. *(:=
That's a fun running light plate there - that's one of the few options I didn't opt for in this car. Those and the (imho) silly adaptive cruise control for 17000 bucks or whatever they wanted for that package. *q:=
What do you mean by the TPS light? I'm not familiar with that acronym..

I like the illuminated kick plate, but it was already on the car, made a deal on one they had in stock, probably would not have paid extra for it by I really like it.
TPS= Tire Pressure Sensor. It comes on when the tire pressure is low. When I bought my 350 Z, it came on driving home form dealer. Driving G37 home, TPS light comes on. Tire pressure was off on a couple, but now they are correct, light still coming on. I will have to get dealer to reset probably, but I'm ignoring right now (Infinity dealer is about 3 hour drive from here, SW VA). I'm just waiting till the first service to see if there are any more "bugs" to mention.
