Downshifting tips? Im ok at casual downshifts but one of em/ I kinda F'ed up on. I was downshifting from 6th to 4th while @ approx 50 MPH and the RPMs shot up to like 6 and teh car jerked.....Can U only downshift one gear? I wouldnt thinkit woulda shot up that much. Maybe it was 2nd I dunno I panicked....Generallyhow would a downshift go in the situation where you're on the highway, you want the best acceleration from being at 65MPH and 6th gear, is a double gear downshift possible? I feel like 6th to 5th just doesnt give U enough juice? What do U guys say?

Now that Ive gotten more used to the RPM powerband on the car yes i agree i must have went from 6th to 2nd. Damnit. I am happy RPM only shot to 6k , since I was only @ 50 MPH...other than the fact that car wasnt broken in at that point. (it is now)
Now If I was on the highway and @ 75 MPH and accidentally downshifted from 6th to 2nd I could really screw something up unless I caught it in split second timing. Kinda worries me.

I'm a noob when it comes to the technicalities of driving stick, so here's an easy question. Why does shifting into first gear seem more difficult some times than others? Once in a while, I feel like I have to put more effort into getting the shifter to reside into place properly.
I'm not really sure how to explain this, but this has happened in just about every stick car I've driven. I think the smoothest shifter I've ever experienced was in...*drum roll*...an Acura TSX.

That means getting into first will require a bit of care -- if you've recently stopped and the layshaft is still spinning, the gear won't want to go in right away and will require a bit of pressure or better yet, just wait a sec. Or, if you are moving and trying to get into 1st gear, you will most definitely need to revmatch and likely need to double-clutch into 1st.
Aggressive gear ratios make for a car that takes a little more effort to drive... but it is worth it
