Dealer says they cant find my other key.....
So i went to a dealer in socal, and picked up my new g37. They did a dealer trade from another local dealer, cuz they didnt have the car i wanted. Turns out when they delivered my car, it only had one key, ( it was late...i wanted to go home). So my sales guy assures me that its no problem, he will overnight it to me via fedex, once he gets it.....
One week later.....
He calls me, and tells me that they cant find my other key. But says its not a problem and they can make me another one. Only problem is car and the key i have needs to be there so they can program another one for me....this is as you know a real incovience, only cuz the dealership i picked it up from is about 50 miles from my house.....( grrr).
Any truth on this, and any suggestions or tips??? So that maybe i can avoid a trip down there??? Also, anyone think they are keeping the other key on purpose???? ( repo, etc.,??)
Any input would be great.....thanks guys!!!!

I'd be more worried about who has the other Key and what is keeping them from stealing your car?

I would personally not only demand compensation, but also ask for another car or have them change key codes if possible. I wouldn't like having the thought of my keys being in a stranger's hand. If something does happen to your car, you will always have this possibility in the back of your mind.

don't go overboard on the compensation though....maybe a discount or free accessories and parts?

Definitely ask for some kind of compensation, i.e. free service or some stuff. Think of the 50 mile drive there as getting to know your car and quicker breaking in period.
But if you can change the key code, I'd rather have that done.

Dude, 50 miles is nothing with a new car. Have FUN! Take a detour to a nice mom and pop restaurant and enjoy the ride. I know it's easy for guys on a "not too busy" schedule to say something like that BUT then again you can always overnight the key from home to the dealer and then have them overnight it back as well.

UPDATE!!!!!
ok......so my sales guy calls me....and thinks im dumb or something but he says:
"well jimmy, its not a problem, just come down and we will make you another key, no problem..."
so im thinking WTF?! im supposed to go all the way down there, wait, and all you're going to give me is another key? When someone out there could have my key....and steal my car? So i hang up, and call back 10 min later, and talk to the service manager.....she tells me:
"Well we can re-code your key and car, and get you another one, but if someone out there has your key, they can still get in and out of your car, using the actual key that is inside the intelligent key, they just cant start your engine"
SHE SAID THAT LIKE IT WASNT A PROBLEM..-___-.
So im supposed to feel safe?! OH OK, SO THEY CANT START MY ENGINE, but i shouldnt worry that (WHOEVER) they could get into my car, if/when they want?! Seriously guys, the more i thought about it, the more pissed off i got, im seriously thinking about calling corporate.....
Note: THEY KEY GOT "MISPLACED" WHILE THE CAR WAS STILL ON THE LOT, NOT SOLD YET. So inside job???
PLEASE HELP!!!

I think you're flipping out over nothing. Life is too short to worry about a missing key. It is highly unlikely someone is going to go to the trouble of stealing 1 key just so they can track down the buyer 50 miles away to steal their car.
I would just calm down, tell them you're going to come by to get 2 new keys reprogrammed and expect to have some compensation, ie. some accessories or something.
Alternatively, you can tell them to send a flat bed out to pick up your car at your work or home get 2 sets of keys recoded and bring your car back to you. All this can be accomplished while you're at work so it will be like absolutely no hassle for you.
The bottom line is, life is too short to be flipping out over such a minor problem.

Relax. You chose to purchase the car from an out-of-town dealer because of impatience (well understood, but impatience never the less). Sometimes that comes back to bite you for unapparent reasons.
No one is going to steal your car. That key is probably lost somewhere at the original dealer. You've got insurance anyway.
Beyond everything else, don't become a "victim". They lost your key and owe you a new one. They don't owe you anything else. It was a simple mistake. No one was injured due to negligence. Where would you be if you had to compensate everyone you made a mistake with?
Enjoy your car. You made a great choice.

Chill out, it's not that big a deal. Go down on a Saturday. Enjoy the uninterrupted hour of bliss in your G. Listen to some good music. Make sure to get there with little gas in the tank and politely ask the person who takes care of you if they would mind filling your tank for your inconvenience. At $3 a gallon that's almost $60 for 2 hours of your life that could have been spent in worse pursuits. Maybe ask them for a hat or T-shirt or key chain or something. Have them recode both Intelligent Keys, and stop being so paranoid aobut your car getting stolen. It's very unlikely that this is a part of some evil Master Plan, but more likely just somebody screwed up and lost it. If it turns up, how the hell will they even know which car it goes to and where you live? And if they do, they'd have to be very crooked and ballsy to try to drive 50 miles to your house and steal it from your driveway, don't you think? And in case I'm way off base and it is "The Man" trying to get you, you've got insurance, don't you?

UPDATE #2!!!
ok thanks for the great advice guys....after careful contemplation, i decided to give the customer relations manager at the dealer a call. She was more than helpful. I told her the situation, and she explained to me, how there is a "key room" and it is only accesible by fingerprint. And that only managers have access to that room. ( No salesman, porters, techs, etc.,) So it is very unlikely that a manager would wanna steal your car. Also she understood that i wanted to get this taken care of as soon as possible. She offered to drive the 60 miles (herself) to my work in a loner car, drop it off for me, take my car back, have the key codes changed on the car, key, and my new key, and bring the car back to me with a new tank of gas, car wash, free wheel locks, and a 50 dollar gift card to starbucks. She said she would pick the car up at 8 am, and can have it back to me by noon!
Im not greedy, i didnt even think of the free stuff til you guys started mentioning it, i just wanted to take care of it ASAP, and have piece of mind. Now i think i have that, and i can say that i am quite content, of how she took care of my problem.....
what do you guys think???
