Test Drove a G37S 6MT today
#109
Can you elaborate on the clutch? Is the release point still near the top? Does the clutch pedal seem to functure as an "on-off" switch as some have reported?
Thanks, still waiting for a 6MT to test drive so I can find out for myself.

Well compared to the G35 which I own, the clutch pedal seems very touchy and limp and hard to modulate initially. it will take some time to get used to.
The shifter is not as notchy. Usually you feel a sport car's feedback through engine note, vibrations and other occurences. The new G irons out the rough edges of the old G but paradoxally that's what I dislike about it.

Test drove a G37s 6MT. today!!
The salesperson called me last night to tell me they got there first shipment of Gs and wanted me to come check it out. So today I went to my dealership and got to test drive a G37 6MT. I test drove a G35 sedan automatic a few weeks ago and a BMW 335i a few days ago and I am glad with the descision I made to go buy the G37. I honestly think 7k more for the bimmer wasn't worth it just to have a badge but a least the bimmer has the performance which I thought it was missing on the last generation. My first impression was its faster than my G35 which is an automatic and has almost identical performance with the 335i. Those that have a G35 stick might not know the difference but the G37 is diffinitely quicker than my G35 automatic. I drove my friends 350z manual but the clutch was not so smooth to engage like the new G. This thing shifts so smooth and so qiuck and clutch was so easy to engage. The ride is smooth but not like lexus smooth where you forget that your in a sports car and takes the fun away. But for the G to have the sport package its sure did feel smoother than the BMW. Now handling is another step over the bimmer I must say. I can cut a corner and it still felt like I could of pushed it a little harder. Another thing to remember when driving this car is to check the speedometer I was going 70 mph in a 40 mph zone but the car didnt even feel that fast. The engine is quiet and you cant hear the exhaust unless you roll your windows down. Kudos to infiniti hopefully mine will be here in a couple of months.

Let me know what you think of the MT because I was disappointed when I drove the auto. Interior and technology wise it’s awesome but performance wasn’t what I was expecting. I test drove the sedan a while back and I actually remembered it being faster. It didn’t feel even close to the 335 in 0-60. I also noticed a slight steering wheel jitter which was annoying and I was disappointed by the brakes. Huge brakes yet the 335’s breaking seemed much better. Maybe it was just something with that car, I’m waiting to drive the MT and I hope its better. It’ll be more fun to drive than the auto, that’s for sure.

I want the new one, but to dish out another 10-20k on top of the G37 is something that I have to think about and determine if it is worth it for me.
As stated above the 6mt was faster (shorter gear ratio with extra gear), more fun, and is something I may consider getting. I am going to wait it out and see what other competition is arising in the near future.

Thanks for that post Rocky! Owners who are going from a G35 or a G37 and say that it is not an improvement in performance are probably being fooled by the seat-of-their-pants odometer. I have been a G35 coupe for a few days now, and can honestly say, the car feels solid as a rock, but it does FEEL like you are going fast. The 37 being more of a luxury car...it has to be to compete with the 335, is no doubt deceptive.

For those who test-drove the auto
Make SURE you drive the 6MT.
I drove the auto last week as well as an 07 sedan and liked the sedan better. I was somewhat disappointed in the G37's performance.
Drove a 6MT today... BIIIIIG difference IMO. So if you weren't blown away with the performance and drove the 5AT, do yourself a favor and try the manual.
BTW first post here... Haven't decided on G37 yet and will probably wait for VPP pricing if I decide to go for it.
