g37s 6MT disappointing "off the line.'

People buy cars for different reasons. Your comments suggest that the original poster should not expect more from the car and simply settle.
The car has been represented to be an improvement to its predecessor in many ways, including horse power and straight line performance.
I bought a G37 for my high school aged son, knowing it is pretty weak under the hood. He nonetheless thought he would have a fast beast and complains of the performance. Mind you, he is still in his break in period. (I have owned an APS Twin Turbo G35 and know first hand that a G can be a monster on the strip and on the track.)
A G37 would not be my first choice of a car for the same reasons. (For the record, I own a Cayman S, which is my daily driver, and a 996 GT2, as my weekend car. My son understands the difference in cars when he hops out of the GT2 into his g35.)
At the end, different strokes for different folks.

WTF? you bought you kid a G37 because you thought it was slow? If you wanted to get him a slow car buy a Sentra. I am completly baffeled as to how you think the G37 is a slow car. I know it is not the fastest car around but come on man!

Well I bought my 15 year old (learners permit) a Saleen S7, and he thought that was fast until he rode in my Bugatti Veyron....
By saying the G37 is "weak" under the hood doesn't make sense. The G35/37 is not a weak car by any means. If you (or your son) thinks that a car that does 0-60 in the mid 5s is slow, then please let me know what it is that you are smoking. Yes there are faster cars, but 5.5 isnt slow, sorry.
And if you are looking to adopt, I will gladly accept a $40k+ car with no complaints.

Here is a picture of the Cayman S (note the little boy -- that is my youngest)

That is one bad *** Cayman S -- Its the RINSPEED IMOLA show car which as been displayed at the LA Autosalon and LA Auto Show
Here is a picture of my p-cars together (you can see my Vintage Mustang GT, which has a Vortec Supercharger, in the garage as well.)
Here's a picture of the old G -- 370 HP to the wheels

I will post pictures of all of the family rides, including the new G when I get home.
And for all the other doubters, you may meet me at Cars and Coffee (at the Ford Design Center in Irvine) on every Saturday; why would I go on a forum and misrepresent my holdings.
The G37, like its predecessor, the G35, is under powered, bloated and what I believe to be a tweener. Please do not misunderstand; I would not have bought the car unless I believed it had value for its particular purpose. When the boy gets older, we will be dropping in a TT, lowering it and putting some HREs. Or, we will just wait another year and buy the Nissan Skyline. The purpose of my post was to simply observe that the G37 was a very hyped "high performance" car; I can see no difference in performance between the G37 and G35.
As for the requests for adoption, my family already has enough free loaders.

Who is showing off -- I bought the car for my kid; we both agree that it is under powered.
I come on this forum to voice my observations. I get back a rain of criticism and doubt that I owned the whips.
As for the plates, thanks for the advice.

i'd have to agree. The G37 doesn't have impressive performance for those of us that came from porsches, M3/S4 or similar type cars. My 10 year old M3 has 100hp less and still runs the same track times!!
The G37 is a good car as all of us will agree, i test drove one and liked the drive and technology, but i was disappointed that even though it has 330hp it would be crushed by a stock e46 M3 in every performance test.

The e46 M3 BETTER be faster.

333 - this is what I mean by fanboy mentality. I have to say that compared to other lifestyle-related forums, this one is actually very constructive. However, you will still always find the guys who "drive in denial." (Or the occasional car salesman who actually profits from trashing any criticism on the cars that he sells).
To all, I will reiterate that I LOVE my g37. And I really think that ALL OF US are driving one of the coolest toys ever made since some dude invented the wheel.
However, by looking at the totality of posts on this thread, you must admit that I am not the only one who would have loved to have just a tad of an extra push when the light turns green. To put it in terms that EVERYONE will understand - I feel like I am dating a super model with c-cups - not bad for a chump like me. But chump or not, I am sure every one of you (even the car dealership dude) would love to make those d's. (I know, there may be some girls here, but my assumption is that you gals are too smart to care about this silly thread anyway).
Now, that I have heard everybody's reactions (mostly enlightening, few juvenile which actually told me more once I read between the lines), I have a much better understanding of my new purchase and am very happy with what this fine community has given me - thank you. Now let's start another thread, this one is maxed out.

Engines are built with such low tollerances there is not much to break in (although ther e is some break-in but not enough to make the car feel that much more "sluggish" per se). The ECU however does "learn" your drivng habits which early in the breakin period, you are "teaching" it conservative habits. ECUs are sometimes even programmed to be more conservative during the first few hundred miles. To say that "it has nothing to do with the ECU" and imply that it is solely because the engine isn't physically broken in is completely incorrect.

*Yawn* Yup, please do that, as I for one don't believe these are your cars. You work for pirelli and you get the joy of taking out the company cars for a spin! thats gotta be it.. yup. That, and your garage is way to small to fit all of your family rides. But just to prove us otherwise (whether we believe you or not), please provide tons of photos of yourself, your son, wife, and cars (of course), and registration proving you own the cars. Yup, otherwise you're a fake and no one believes you

Just because its the "slowest" car you own doesn't make it a slow car.
And you can "blah blah fanboy" this and "blah blah fanboy that", but you can't blame the forum for reacting to comments like "weak under the hood" that you can only back up with comparisons to forced induction cars.
I'm considering making: "I bought a G37 for my high school aged son, knowing it is pretty weak under the hood." my signature. Thats gotta be the best quote so far on this forum.DOMO
