I've always adjusted my mirrors in a parking lot. Park so that you know a vehicle is in the blind spot and then adjust your mirrors accordingly. I can't comment on the G37 specifically but I've used this method with all vehicles I've owned and have never had a problem with not knowing where adjacent vehicles are.

 

This is the route I take. You can park between 2 cars and set both mirrors, to eliminate blind spots on both sides at once.

it blows my mind how many people don't know this. and when i take my car somewhere and they changed to mirrors back to the incorrect way.

 

I drove a G37 for an evening as a demo and found it to have less blind spots than my 2005 Accord coupe, which was suprising.

i've used this method for over a year now and have NO problems knowing what's around me.

 

When I bought a new 300zx in 1989 (1990 model - new design), Nissan included a one day performance driving course at a local track. Adjusting the mirrors like that is the first thing they taught us. When I saw it, it was like 'doh!' moment. Why the heck do you need to see the same thing in all 3 mirrors?? Changed my mirror position to that configuration and haven't done a shoulder check in over 15 years. Not only does it eliminate the blind spot and the need for a shoulder check, but you are more aware of the traffic around you as the cars are right there in your peripheral vision all the time in both side mirrors.

 

^^ Good illustration. Compared with the parked along busy road method, this driving forward and backwards against a parked car in a parking lot eliminates the need to wait for passing cars.

 

I tried it and love it! The only problem is that the drivers side mirror will not go out far enough but it is much better.

 

Yeah, actually for most cars you don't even need to go through the procedure outlined earlier. Just adjust them out as far as they will go. Most go right to about where you want them.
