Guidepoint vs. LoJack

They tricked you. They did the same thing to me, saying that it was a "port-installed" option, but I knew beforehand that it wasn't since it is a dealer option. I told them I didn't want it and they removed it from the list of options. Saved me like $1700 right there.

I talked it down to 565 for the full lojack package on mine. He offered 700 and I turned it down. Then he said, "what the hell, how about 565?" so I took it.
That was a little OT, but this will be the first vehicle I had lojack on, so I can't offer comparative analysis. But, it lowered my insurance and generally makes me feel better in Sacramento, which is known for being on the upper end of car theft. Piece of mind is everything I suppose.

Oh yeah? Well the dealer paid me to put it on my car... Beat that :P Na Just kidding.
But on topic, is LoJack like a GPS device in your car to help locate it? Or what exactly does this do? I know LoJack for electronics is a sticker with a number... Same thing for cars?

When I talked to the cops they said they have limited amounts of cars with the LoJack tracking stuff installled, almost sounded as if LoJack was more hype than anything, that was 2 years ago maybe things have changed since then.

No. Or at least thats what I was told. My finance guy mentioned that LoJack gives you $X back and you get money from another company too. Not sure, would need to go back to the paperwork. But total money back if the car was stolen and never found was going to be like $7,500.. and that is after your insurance and gap pays the car off.
I may be a bit off on the #'s but it went something like that...

Lojack is a waste of money. Ask your finance guy is to see current lojack stats for your area as far as how meany cars with lojack were reported stollen and how meany were recovered and how meany were not recovered where you live. And how meany cruisers are equiped to find your stollen car. Lojack is just another way to make money buy scaring the you right before you make your second bigest purchase in life. Just like pmi it protects the lender not the borrower
