But, with pretty much every other car I might want, I can order at dealer cost or from the distributor or manufacturer. That's how I can buy a 335i at a really good price or a Corvette at a really great price. Problem is I like the Infiniti better, and I was willing to pay what I thought it might cost me. Now that it will cost me more to buy, I wonder if I should buy something else.
Best of luck with your decision!

You have to compare using simiar packages, not by adding all the packages!

For example:

G37 + Sport Package + Navigation + Premium = MSRP + 7250 = 42250

BMW 335 + Sport Package + Navigation Package + Premium + Cold Package = MSRP + 7750 = 48550

Difference is $6300.

Again, considering that the 335 is a little faster, it mods easier, you get better gas mileage and your maintenance is free for 4 years, that canges this a bit and I don't see the difference that was in the past price-wise.

I sounds like you need to keep reassuring yourself and everyone else that you made the right choice for youself and defend your G37 like there is no tomorrow. The G37 is a good value, nobody denies that.

Another thing to think about is the European delivery option for the BMW. Considering ED prices, the difference becomes essentially insignificant.

I really don't agree that the price difference between the G37 and 335 with euro delivery is insignicant.

I think at best the BMW will still be 5K more, unless you are considering uneven options between the two cars.

But I am surprised to see G37 is almost exactly the same price as the IS350 (with premium, nav, upgraded sound).

You are missing options on the BMW that the G37 you quoted comes with.... metalic paint, IPOD integration, XM radio, comfort access (smart key), etc...

Add that stuff in and you are back around $8500+ difference.

I'm looking at ED Invoice prices. People over at Bimmerfest seem to be able to get roughly $1000 above ED invoice. The difference between the two cars is then 1000 to 1500 (only 2-3%) for a 6mt at least.

Just out of curiosity Yimbie -- why are you so worried about price? Aren't your parents paying for it?

Also, I hate to nit-pick, but if we are going down this road, we should talk about lease rates as well (since most people lease). It is quite possible the BMW could lease out for roughly the same price as the G.

335i, sport + met. paint ($43,150) @ 36 mo. - (source)
= $3584 down + $534/mo.

G37 6MT ($35,550) lease @ 36 mo., 56% residual, 0.029MF
= $3500 down + $528/mo.

Hopefully, Infiniti can give a better residual to knock the price down, but 56% isn't out of line from what I understand.

I also asked one of them if there has been anything about getting a 335i 5k below MSRP and he told me to go to another dealer.

They probably paid him 6k under KBB value for his trade in or 12% APR financing :P

Seriously tho in some very random circumstances you might get good deals on these hot cars, but not usually. Another big factor is location.... when I was looking to test drive the 335 coupe in Northern VA, I found out none of the dealers even have a demo on the lot, let alone one for purchase. I seriously doubt they are going to sell a special order car for 5k under MSRP unless its some extremly odd circumstance. I really don't think it has anything to do with negotiation skills.

I disagree that most people lease... its a bad deal if you drive a lot, keep cars for more than 4 years, and have enough to put down a down payment.

Also, those lease rates are for the base 335 coupe. I got a lease quote from a local dealer for a 48k dollar (1k discount from MSRP) 335 coupe and with a 5k down payment (for security + tax+ tags and the rest applied to lower the purchase price) the lease rate was over $700 a month for 36 months and 12k miles.

Yea but the base G37 comes with way more than the base 335.

In case anyone was wondering about the math:

335i coupe

34,360 (base ED invoice)
2230 (premium package)
910 (sports package)
455 (comfort access)
430 (metallic paint)
695 (destination charge)

+1000 (dealer commission)

total=40,080

g37 6mt

31313 (07 base invoice)
+~$1500 (increase in price as seen in difference in MSRPs)

3000 (premium invoice)

474 (aero package)

715 (destination charge)

+1000 (dealer commission)

total=38,002

So, the difference is roughly 2000 assuming you get an Infiniti dealer to give you the car for 1000 above invoice. All things considered, a difference of $2000 becomes insignificant in my book in terms of picking the car that one truly likes. Note that some of these prices are approximations, but they get the point across.

Don't forget +500 for Sirius, +500 for IPOD +800 or more for travel to Europe. Also why add the aero package to the g37?

Sorry, I am kinda adamant about this pricing difference thing because I really do like the 335 coupe and probably would consider one if I could really get it for only 2k more than the G37 I want.

I think you can snag a ticket to Munich for 500 for a student like me at least. BMW also has an arrangement with Lufthansa where you get 2 tickets to Munich for the price of one. But, yeah, I'm not big on satellite radio, though I would get the ipod connector. Anyway, the point was to show that the difference if you do ED, is not that bad if one was trying to buy the bmw and was worried about price. As for myself, I'm torn between the 3.2 TT, 335i, and the g37.

Hmmm.... I wonder if Infiniti or Lexus will come up with some program where you go to Japan. I'd love to go there.

I am so jealous of you, I would love to get to go there one day. Hopefully, it will happen sometime.
