...Thinking Of Getting A G37S...
#18
Since the performance of the Gs are similar, the question that existing owners of the G35 have to ask themselves is whether the improvements in refinement in the G37 are worth the premium that they will have to pay for the new car. I had to ask myself that question in 2001 when I owned an E36 M3. The answer to that question was relatively easy because of the E46's performance improvement, and I went with the E46 M3. IMO the case isn't that clear for the G37, but I certainly understand why people would chose to tradein their G35 for the G37 because it is a gorgeous car with a stylish interior.

I recently traded in my base 2003 LR G35 (w/cloth seats) for a fully loaded 2007 AB G35. My reasoning was simple: I absolutely love the design of the G35, I'm completely satisfied with the way it drives, and I only wanted some more luxury features that my original didn't have. The new G37 is still growing on me, design and performance wise (at least based on reviews). I'd love to see it in person and test drive it before deciding on whether I really want to drive one home. I think a year will be enough for me to decide. In addition, the dealers should be more eager to unload the G35s to clear room for the G37. Good luck with your decision - I really don't think you'll lose either way!

I agree once the hype fades out the G37's won't be as "special" anymore.
One thing for sure the G35's will never look outdated, it's an instant classic with its cult following, it came with a revolutionary design and still turns heads everywhere. the new G will be a hit but I doubt will make the same impact as the first gen did. Only time will tell if I'm right...

The new G37 body style will be around for a few years as well, and if you take care of it no one will know in three/four years that it's not a new car. The G35 will just look older and older as time clicks by. (and I love the look of the current G, but it will age!!) Best of luck to you.

14.6-15.0 range? I'm hoping these aren't magazine times, because if they are, they should be ashamed for bad driving or being dumb enough to drive in awful conditions.
The 03-06 G35's have always potentially been very low 14 second cars on average; potentially meaning with great driving and about "normal" racing conditions.
The 07 G35 Sedan and 08 G37 Coupe are definately significantly faster; but it isn't a huge leap ahead.
It's the kind of gain you can't really feel unless you are on a race track/ drag strip.

The only time I see my 06 Coupe 6MT looking outdated is once the G37 becomes outdated; probably the next generation after the G37.
Interior wise- the G35 will definately look outdated compared to the interior of the G37. But the exterior will look as dated as the new G37.
Just my personal opinion

The fact is, the G37 is an evolution from the G35; not a revolution.
From a distance, I think it will be hard to tell the G35 from the G37 with the exception of its front.

All we have to go by so far are magazines. Everyone who is saying the G37 isn't a performance improvement is going by the G37 magazine tests. I do not doubt that people will be able to improve on those times just like people (some) improved on the G35 magazine time. So, to compare apples to apples (magazine to magazine):
The G35 is a 6.0-6.2 second car. I would hardle take ONE (I can't think of another) road test and say that's what the car does. MOST others were getting mid-high 14's (check the car magazine sites and edmunds). That's a more reliable number.
The same magazines tested the G37 and were consistently seeing 5.3-5.5 seconds 0-60 (I agree wgaf) and 1/4 mile times from 13.8-14.2 at 100-104 mph.
The G35 road tests were done awhile ago so people might tend to forget the details of them as time has passed. Those are the real numbers no doubt about it. You can check for yourself.
Here are a few (Road and Track, Automobile, and Edmunds):
http://www.roadandtrack.com/reviews/...1_g35_data.pdf
http://www.edmunds.com/apps/vdpconta...4/pageNumber=2
http://www.automobilemag.com/test_data//index1.html
I think Motor Trend was the one with the 5.5 but I could be wrong. I'm positive that if one magazine publishes a test tomorrow that the new G37 ran a 0-60 in 4.8 seconds and a 1/4 mile time in 13.2 seconds, not one of the haters would say "we go by the fastest time - the G37 is a huge performance increase over the G35". They would call it a fluke. And I agree. I go by what MOST people are getting, not the one off road test. That only makes sense, no? Just look at what people with stock G35's are running at the track. There all high 14's (some 15's). You can go by that or the published times, but do not compare some great drag racer times of the G35 with the magazine times of the G37. That's not apples to apples.
So, do you still think it's not an improvement?
